Andrew Jackson son of Jarrett Jechagn colored of this city won top honors at the Interstate Oratorical Contest in Kansas City Missouri Kansas and Nebraska last week. Prize money was ten dollars. Jackson represented George R Smith College of Seda Wein. His parents are Mr and Mrs Charles Pale Wy COREless Mo Dr J W Wiley of Greenboro Miss Aliie Smith attended the Rev R H Smith of this city. They were married in St Louis on December 28 with Rev C M Keeton presiding. Dr Wiley left with his bride for the land of magnolias where he enjoys a lucrative practice and esteem of citizens.

City official named to fill vacancy remains on duty
The city’s vacancy from Miss Aurora Perry’s resignation remains filled by Mrs N H Kenner’s substitute.
