Afro-American Sergeants Retire On Three-Quarters Pay

Two Afro-American sergeants, Paschel H of the Ninth Cavalry and Cornelius Fuller of the Twenty Fourth Infantry, retire on three quarters pay amounting to $30 monthly each after thirty years of service. They served in campaigns against the Indians, the battle of Santiago, and in the Philippines.

Thanksgiving at St James was a complete success socially and financially. The event featured a large audience for a program titled The Women s Rights Convention. Trustees reported about 650 in hand at the rally closing Sunday night under Rev W C Williams with a motto of More and better work.
