Florida Hayes dies at Salt Springs at age nineteen
The 19 year old son of Mrs Ed Pollard died at the family home in Salt Springs on Sunday night August 3 after two weeks of brain fever. Funeral was held at Elmwood MI church Sunday forenoon led by Rev Rush of Sweet Springs. He was born August ad 1887 and was one day past 19 at death. His father James Hayes died five years ago and his mother later wed Ed Pollard. He was a steady young man and a member of the ME church.

The Lafayette Colored Fair begins its first annual meeting at the county fair grounds in Hiaoteavinins August 15. Races drew crowds with 1000+ attendees, mainly from Lexington, Mayview, and nearby towns. winners included Odessa Clipper and Headlight, with floral hall displays managed by W W Ford and assistants.
