A Katy passenger train hit a farm wagon driven by C. C. Kunzler near Sedalia at the Boonville Street crossing. Two mules died, the wagon was wrecked, and Kunzler was seriously injured and taken to Katy Hospital.
Mr J C Shelton, a new Sedalia resident, writes to The Sentinel praising his refitting of the Elks hotel and pledging continued local spending. He states Sedalia is home, plans to support a fund for children’s books with 25 dollars and potentially more to reach 1000 dollars, and will be available to the subscription committees.
A brief note highlights Sedalia Steam Laundry as a preferred local facility, suggesting it as the top choice for cleaning services.
St. Louis Missouri January 18 1902 Sedalia Sentinel reports a state convention set for St. Joseph July 22 and judicial events in Springfield July 8. Primaries result 20 to 10 with harmony. Siebert and Edwards present as Dockery returned home last night leaving Kansas City Jefferson City Joplin Sedalia out.
The St. Louis Republic lauds Collins Thompson born in Sedalia and son of J C Thompson for a remarkable stenographic achievement in a correspondence feature. President Francis of the era is mentioned in relation to the noted feat.
The Globe Copper Mining company led by Capt. A. C. Widdicombe, with a $1.5 million capital and central office in Colorado Springs, backs a Rambler mine platinum discovery near Laramie. Engineering tests by Edward F. Brown show high copper and gold yields, boosting the Silver Crown district and Wyoming interests.
The pumping station well now extends to 430 feet, 100 feet through sandstone, suggesting soft water. At 190 feet water was within 20 feet of the top, and veins have since raised water to within seven feet. An eight inch shaft is sunk and may be enlarged. East head officials visit Monday to discuss a compromise contract.
At the Missouri Confederate home in Higginsville eighty six veterans received Crosses of Honor in a ceremony Saturday. Mrs. A. E. Ashbury, president of the Missouri U D C, led the event with local Daughters of the Confederacy. Crosses for gallantry and devotion to the Lost Cause were awarded to Robert Bonner and J. P. Dow, former Sedalia residents.

A new lodge of the Select Knights and Ladies was formed at Glass hall Friday evening led by Capt. T. C. Holland. About fifty members joined with officers named including President Bruce Barnett and Mrs. John Clingenpeel as first vice president. The Knights and Ladies of Security Fidelity council No 53 reported 26 new ballotings and nears 300 members. Queen City lodge No 564, K and L of S, had a strong meeting with several candidates initiated and a lively social gathering.
Capt E W Stevens sails from Sedalia to New Orleans with a carload of standard and high bred matched teams trotting and pacing horses from Central Missouri. The consignment features Carrie Rose Jim Wildwood Eph Miss Pretty Onward Prince Nig and Jet Colonel and Captain Tuberose Lady's Pet and others. The shipment aims to attract horse lovers in New Orleans and marks Stevens first trip with stock.
W D Ham of the Merrill Lead and Mining Company notes lively activity in Tipton as a new mining district grows. Dr Harry Gundling has paid Allen Hardy 50000 more on the Fortuna property bringing total from Gundling to 75000 with 50000 still due. He has four shafts in operation and a new 150 ton mill is under roof and soon to begin work.
President D. R. Francis states there will be no postponement of the St. Louis World’s Fair. Reports circulating Friday claimed a delay to 1904 are officially denied.
A brief notice directs weekly push of bundle work to the Sedalia steam laundry, marking the first part of each week for processing and delivery schedule.

Philip Adams, cashier of the Commercial Bank of Fulton Missouri, vanished with about 4500 in gold and bank currency. Last seen in Jefferson City on Thursday evening. The bank, capitalized at 52000, was two years old and connected to Westminster College through Adams and associates.
Word reached Sedalia on Friday that Mrs Maymie Serber nee McCloskey died at her Denver home after a lingering illness. She was 27 and had lived in Denver five years with her printer husband who moved there in 1896. Her mother Mrs Charles McCloskey left for Denver on Saturday while Mr McCloskey remained working in New Franklin machine shops.
The funeral of Frank Kennedy at the First M. E. church yesterday afternoon drew one of the largest crowds in Sedalia. Floral tributes were unusually numerous as mourners gathered to honor the deceased.
