Chicago police hunt Lieut Gov Lee of Missouri after a signed message to St Louis prompts a grand jury perjury inquiry. Chief ONeill directs detectives to locate him as questions about his health and possible flight rise. Senator Farris remains missing after being subpoenaed and questioned.
A bank holdup at the First National Bank in Wampum ends with one robber killed and Henry Willoughby, a baker, wounded in both legs. Willoughby fired at the robbers who fled. the dead assailant was found in a vacant lot, identity unknown. Two other robbers escaped.
James Howard testifies as defense witness at his Goebel murder trial, claiming alibi by placing himself at the Board of Trade hotel during the shooting and denying knowledge of Taylor Cul ton or Goebel. He says he did not meet Henry Youtsey until jail and denies receiving any letters. Court recess interrupted his testimony.
Dispatches from St Louis report John A Lee lieutenant governor of Missouri sought for grand jury testimony. A telegram from Chicago claimed he was in St Louis but he has vanished from hotels and is not identified publicly. Family and allies cite health strain and say he fled for rest and to prepare to testify.
Reports say papers have been prepared for a trial of Rev. Paul James Francis, minister general of the Order of the Atonement based at Garrison. Bishop Coleman of Delaware chairs the case, accusing Francis of teaching views linked to Rome while once aligning with the Episcopal Church. A Garrison property valued at about 300 dollars is cited as belonging to the order, with a monastery on one side and a sister’s mother house on the other.

Mayor Reed's proclamation ordering the killing of all dogs found at large and unmuzzled has led to the practical annihilation of dogs in Morristown New Jersey. Since the edict took effect yesterday about 1000 dogs have been killed. The action followed rabies infections in about 150 dogs from a bulldog. The town council and mayor deemed wholesale slaughter necessary.
In a Brooklyn court Solo mon Hellerstein describes an academy of crime in New York run by two young men known as the Boston brothers. He says a staff of about thirty boys aged 12 to 19 were trained to steal and sent to districts to work for a share of profits under threat of punishment.
The body of Bud Taylor who was hanged yesterday morning was to be interred at Elmwood Cemetery but fifteen minutes before the funeral time the cemetery superintendent ordered the body moved. The hearse stood before the undertaker when the body was taken to Union Cemetery and placed in its vault.
Berlin reports Count Zeppelin, after 33 years of effort and with broken heart, has quit aerial navigation by dirigible. His shops and appliances are to be sold at auction.
