President Roosevelt arrived in Minneapolis greeted by thousands at the depot and along the route to the hotel. He delivered a two hour tariff speech from a republican standpoint and then gave six speeches total, before his special train headed to Sioux Falls seeking rest.
Constable Connor spent a rough night in the Tenderloin landing a record number of detainees. Jim Williams Ada Belle Winn and Kelly Brown fought with a knife injury. Fannie Bates and Ida Johnson clashed and were jailed. John Hamilton and Cress Lyle argued at a colored junction with Hamilton stabbing Lyle. John Jones and John Williams caused a saloon disturbance. Jones fled leaving clothes. All involved are African American.
Custodian Frank Benan leads rapid repairs at the fair grounds track to ready incoming race horses. Winter straw cover is removed and work aims to finish by midweek. grounds including trees and shrubbery will receive attention to restore condition.
Washington April 4 First Lieutenant Ross Reese and Frank Nickerson and Philipine scouts are recommended for regular army commissions for their actions in the battle with San Miguel's forces in which the Filipino leader was killed. Second Lieutenant John N. Pinlaysen also recommended for promotion and Otto Koler of the hospital corps who shot five attackers and lost an arm is recommended for an honor medal.
Congressman Champ Clark endorses General Francis Marion Cockrell of Missouri as the strongest Democrat for the presidential nomination. Cockrell, in his 29th senate year, is praised for an impeachable record and past support for Bryan in 1896 and 1900.
Wabash railroad and its firemen and trainmen reached a settlement in St. Louis granting a fifteen percent wage rise in freight service and twelve percent in passenger service. The agreement excludes parts of the working rules and covers all Wabash territory west of Chicago to Danville.
Washington states Roosevelt had no plan for reprisal after his Chicago speech criticizing boasting. The Berlin interpretation followed Admiral Dewey saying the navy surpasses Germany in ships and men. The Chicago speech was prepared over ten days prior and a copy was with publishers before Dewey's interview.
Dallas on April 4 reports intense Texas political interest over a suspected hundred thousand dollar shortage in state penitentiary funds. Several prominent officials are said to be implicated and one prison official is missing.
A small blaze in Joseph Pickard's yard last night at 9 o'clock started while rubbish was burning. The flames spread to an adjacent woodshed but were quickly put out by the fire department. Loss estimated around 5d.
Washington April 4 Miss John A Logan vice president of the national Red Cross defends Clara Barton and her leadership. He denies she originated efforts to depose Miss Barton from her position.
A close friend of President Roosevelt says Crum the Black collector has been asked to resign and may accept a better post free from racial tension. Crum is considering the proposal and awaiting a formal decision.
On May 5 Sedalians may hear the Theodore Thomas Orchestra of fifty musicians at the opera house. Contracts were closed by the Gentlemen's Musical club for matinee and evening shows, marking Sedalia as a musical center with two concerts to satisfy the town’s music lovers.
The Fourth Anniversary event at the I O O F hall featured a musical and literary program then banquet. I O O F members and wives attended. Mrs. E Williams gave the evening address which was well received. The gathering ended with a warm, informal reception for all guests.

Phillipps, a hospital patient, claims two men robbed him near the Missouri Pacific depot after leaving the Katy hospital. Officers arrested Toten Johnson, a north end figure, after finding him at a dance and locating the missing money likely hidden at a private residence. Phillips remains in custody as a witness.

W Fr Ramsey suing Western Union Telegraph Co in circuit court over a February 1 message to his wife in St Louis. He claims delayed delivery caused lodging costs and seeks 25 damages and 200 statutory value split with the county school fund. Other cases listed include contract and damages claims with totals up to 5000.
The funeral for Miss Lillie May Payne who died Thursday evening at her Arlington Heights home was held Saturday at 10 o clock from the family residence. Rev. F L Cook officiated. Pallbearers from the Missouri Pacific included G R Piet cher R H Driscoll John el James Steele and Claude Keek.
Sherman Williams surprised a burglar at his rural home while sowing oats. A scuffle followed, yielding most of the stolen property. Williams recaptured the intruder in the front yard, gave a severe beating, and sent him away with a boot kick, vowing the man would not return. Jewelry cash and a 44 caliber revolver were recovered from the thief.
