City Attorney A L Shortridge and local lawyers prepare a petition to seek cancellation of the Sedalia Water and Light company charter in circuit court. Grounds include failure to provide adequate water supply and sufficient pressure in mains.
In the courthouse on Wednesday evening October 1 Rev. C. N. White and C. E. Ralls will speak. White is a candidate for representative on the prohibition ticket and Ralls is sent out by the state committee. Both are described as good speakers and urged attendance.
Minter Bouldin mourns the loss of his Scotch Terrier poisoned last Sunday. He received the dog from Chicago about four months ago and reports several good prices offered for the pup.
Sedalia shoppers are told of the celebrated Hudnut line of perfumes described as the finest quality ever offered in the city. W. E. Bard Drug Co. promotes and sells these fragrances.
John Cunningham was elected a delegate to the state convention of the St. Vincent de Paul Council Catholic Benevolent Society to be held in Kansas City in October. Chas. Dunlap was chosen as an alternate.
The forecast calls for fair skies tonight and Wednesday with cooler temperatures and frost in the western portion tonight. Wednesday will be warmer.
Chicago lawyers Schofield and Brown report in a letter to C. C. Lawson that in Blume court garnishment suits against railway men have faced tactics to defeat justice. They claim success in preventing judgments against the railway company in M., K. and T. cases and predict final discharge for many suits if the men endure a few more weeks.
The Sedalia Sentinel reports E. E. Barclay of the Anti Saloon league confessed to being “out for the stuff” but failing to close a saloon or secure lasting gains. Witnesses confirm his admission amid church remarks by Rev. A. G. Robertson about league losses and mistrust of dergelijke fund-collection tactics. The city rejects the group’s methods and supports temperance and law enforcement.
After Monday evening session, the A. M. E. conference announced district appointments across St. Louis Kansas City Cape Girardeau and other areas. Presiding elders B W White J C Owens N Juren led assignments with numerous clergy named to specific churches and missions. Rev Doby transferred to North Missouri conference meeting Wednesday at Moberly.
Richard Young and Henry Olmstead, brakemen on the Missouri Pacific river route division, were reinstated after a collision at Marion Missouri last Sunday. An official nearby allegedly discharged the crew when angry over the wreck blamed Conductor Lawrence for not sending a flag man to halt the train.
Joe Moon and Harry Lloyd, two young men from St. Louis, arrived in Sedalia on passenger train No 9. Lloyd was crushed in the vestibuled doors as the train stopped. Officers Wood and Boultz sent him to headquarters and Dr Will Shirk attended him. Lloyd gave 2306 North Ninth Street as his address.
Mrs. W. D. Adams of Boonville, well known in Sedalia, is very ill after a surgical operation performed last week.
The Jewish New Year 5663 is observed with ten sacred days starting tomorrow. Sedalia Jews will hold Yom Kippur services Wednesday evening at 7 in Royal Tribe of Joseph Hall led by Solomon Kings baker, with a Thursday morning service at 9.
H W Menschke and City Attorney Shortridge reported in St Louis that bond holders agreed to reduce interest on $55,000 of current revenue bonds and unpaid warrants from 6-7 percent to 4 percent. The move is expected to save Sedalia around $2,000 annually. The officials declined reimbursements and praised the finance committee's work.
Rev. Stockdale quits the pastorate at the Baptist church of Independence Missouri stating disbelief in the Trinity and church articles of faith. He plans to affiliate with the Church of This World and cites Voltaire Volney Hume Gibbon and other thinkers as influences. He notes higher criticism and Theodore Parker shaping his views and asserts a Baptist must preach Baptist doctrine or leave.
The Bell clothing store closes at 3 pm to decorate for tonight's third annual opening and reception. Doors reopen from 8 to 10 30 with music and handsome souvenirs and an invitation extended to all to attend.
Mrs. Mary Jones died at 6 40 AM in Mattoon NL at the home of her daughter Mrs Dr J C Clarke after several months illness. Her husband Mr E E Johnson was unaware until this morning and plans to attend the funeral tomorrow afternoon if he reaches town in time.
Miss Lena Greer attempted suicide after a recent druggist Long from New Franklin allegedly ruined several young women. Dr Irwin saved her life while authorities seek harsher punishment for the perpetrator named Long, described as a father of a large family.
In New Franklin Missouri on Monday J S Carlisle married Mrs Mallissa Bloom with Reverend A N Lindsay Christian church pastor officiating.
