Dispatches report fighting between Christians and Mussulmans near Beirut and Smyrna with casualties among soldiers and civilians. The American squadron Brooklyn and San Francisco is cited as a stabilizing presence. Separate obituary notes the death of Mrs. T. T. Clifford after a prolonged illness. Funeral services are planned in the city.
Captain R L Netherton resigns from Sedalia High School after two years to join American Book Company as a Knight of the Grip. He organized the cadets and taught chemistry physics and botany and will remain a Sedalia resident. The school board secretary noted the resignation will be acted on at the next meeting.
Christians and Musslemen clash as natives assault college students in Beirut. Co religionists abandon old enmities to join the fray and violence erupts around the campus.
Official advices from Paris place Beir ut outbreak deaths at five or six with many wounded. The city remains in tense excitement as the outbreak began the night of September.
Harry Beno known as a snake eater and side show freak is in a city hospital with paralysis on his left side after a failed awl drive into his skull. The Sedalia stunt caused brain injury and he has many awl points embedded in his skull. His history includes drinking, attempting strychnine, and a survival from poisons.
Washington reports Minister Leischman cables the State Department that a riot in Beirut left seven Christians dead and several wounded. Two Christian houses were pillaged by Turkish soldiers. An officer and one man from Cotton's Squadron are at the consulate as investigations proceed. The Sublime Porte says Beirut is quiet and government forces are sufficient to maintain order. The State Department urges representations to protect Americans.
Beno and his manager withdrew from Sedalia just before the State Fair closed due to an accident noted in the report.
Berlin date: Kaiser William slept on a blanket with his coat for a pillow to share soldiers hardships during maneuvers. He washed at a pump and was shaved while sitting on an inverted barrel. The troops were greatly pleased by his actions.
Cincinnati report says Big Joe Grimes 34 died at home after a cab ride caused the vehicle’s bottom to break and a leg wound to fail to heal. Grimes stood 6 feet 4 inches, weighed 754 pounds, and was famed as possibly the world’s largest man.
J C Payne a well known Houstonia township resident died Saturday night from an abscess in the head. Funeral services were held Monday at the South Fork church.
In Joseph Missouri on September 8 two hundred Nelson Moris Company workers walked out accusing management of replacing union members with non union labor. In St Louis the same date about two thousand carpenters at the World’s Fair grounds struck over a subcontractor not paying the union scale.
Judge Hazen ruled that coal mine operators accused of forming a price fixing combine cannot refuse to testify under the state bill of rights. The examination began with John Jack, who refused to answer about secret meetings and was jailed for contempt. John Bell also jailed, with bail pending and habeas corpus appeal underway.
The steamer Louise, reported lost with 125 passengers, rode out yesterday’s heavy Lake Erie storm and finally tied up safely at the Sandusky dock. All aboard are unhurt after sheltering near Peles Island and being towed in.
Elmer Mundin pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter in the Shawnee district court for the killing of Mary Mahanina during a crowd outing. Judge Hazen imposed an indeterminate sentence. Three other young men face trial as accessories.

Reporters witness bi racial prisoners corroborating Tharpe's charges of bed bugs and overcrowded, unsanitary cells.
Alva Owens, a Black man, was arrested by Officer James Ellis this afternoon for a series of barn thefts in the city. He is accused of stealing a fine set of buggy harness from W. M. Alspaugh and faces potential state prison time.
The Cole Younger and Frank James Wild West show arrived in town with a grand street parade at 12:30 this afternoon and a performance at Liberty Park. They will present the show again this evening.
At high noon today in Judge J. N. Dalby’s office, the marriage of Mr. E. E. White and Miss Nellie Hutsler was solemnized. Judge T. P. Berry officiated. Both parties reside in Raymond, Missouri.
