Doctors had given up hope but now believe James L Blair may recover his health. The prospect of recovery appears more favorable as new signs emerge.
English born Sedalia engineer Robert Battersby died suddenly at home after a bout with typhoid fever. A longtime Missouri Pacific worker and member of several lodges, he had recovered enough to walk briefly before a final collapse. Funeral services will be held at his residence at 3 p.m. tomorrow conducted by Rev. J. M. Rudy with pallbearers drawn from his lodge affiliations.
A Southern Pacific collision ends in the deaths of three section hands and numerous passenger injuries. Four sleepers were tossed over a bank in the wreck, disabling trains and triggering emergency responses along the line.
James L Blair remains in precarious condition after a fall with doctors now saying he has an even chance for recovery. His wife Mrs Blair, president of the board of Lady Managers of the World's Fair, plans a November 11 meeting to discuss her position and the fair. The Morning Choral Club reelected Mrs Blair as president, while a grand jury probes charges against Blair with Evans H Dick and George S Graham asked to testify.
Andrew A. Blair, brother of James L. Blair, reached the city last night from Philadelphia and stated he intends to render whatever assistance he can. He declined to discuss the matter further.
In St Louis on October 21 depositors from Mississippi Valley and Mercantile Trust pressed to withdraw funds. Fifteen policemen kept crowds in check at Mercantile as rumors of panic spread. women were crushed as doors closed and only small groups admitted at a time.
The morning gathering of the Ladies' Musical Club in the court house club rooms featured a Haydn life paper by Miss Lucile Hill, plus multiple solos and a current events segment led by Mrs. MacGugin. Performers included Miss An na Allen, Miss Allie Brown, Mrs. John Baxter, Miss Mabel Hain, Miss Lucy Gentry, Mrs. Livingston, Mrs. Grant Crawford, and Mrs. Harvey MacGugin.
Robert Alexander, colored, was arrested by Officers Leftwich and Billy Drake for allegedly robbing $30 from Charles Larson near Leeton. The Star saloon on West Main street was the scene several days earlier. Alexander waived preliminary hearing before Magistrate Truxel and was jailed pending investigation.
In Winnemucca Nevada on October 28 a misreading of orders caused a collision on the Southern Pacific Chicago limited and a work train near Palisade. Three Japanese section hands were killed and many passengers injured as four Pullmans plunged over an embankment.
Houston reports Secretary of Agriculture Wilson will arrive tonight with agricultural experts. They will spend a week in Texas examining boll weevil damage tearing into the cotton crop over the past year.
J. T. Lockett of the county purchases a 207 acre farm 3: miles east of Sedalia from Wm. Bane for 15550. Possession to begin March 1. Deed handled through Porter Real Estate Co. by George H. Baldwin.
Prince Galitzen governor general of Caucasus was attacked while driving with his wife in Triflis. The assailants wielded daggers. one was slain another mortally wounded and the third seriously harmed. A Cos sack guard defended the prince and the guard arrived to repel the attackers.
F R Davis a popular M K T shop employee will marry Miss Callie Amos this evening at her parents home at Twenty fourth and Missouri avenues. The ceremony will be conducted at 5 oclock by Rev J M Rudy of the First Christian church. Afterward the couple will visit Osceola Mo before making this city their home.
The East Broadway Christian Church in Sedalia marks its eighth anniversary this week. Organized eight years ago, Rev. F. L. Cook has served as pastor since the church’s inception. It is regarded as a leading, prospering local faith group.
Members of Company D N G M arrived home last night on Missouri Pacific train from Fort Riley Kansas where they took part in army maneuvers. They report marching about twenty miles daily but say the trip was enjoyable and they are well pleased with the experience.
A group of local young men hosts a stag party at Liederkranz hall this evening to honor and bid farewell to Mr. Frank Loeffler who departs for Memphis Tennessee next Tuesday. The Sedalia Military band will provide music for the event.

The remains of Arthur Kruse died in Pueblo Colorado arrived in Sedalia for burial today. The funeral will be from the German M E church tomorrow at 2 o clock with Rev Samuel Buechner officiating. He recently turned 18 married five months ago and worked in a Pueblo wholesale job before dying of appendicitis after an operation. Accompanying the body were his parents Mr and Mrs J H Kruse his wife Mrs Arthur Kruse and Mr and Mrs William Hall.
Bert Dawson and Harry Hammen, inmates at the Jefferson City penitentiary, stole civilian clothes and scaled the walls last night. Guards and citizens fired 25 shots. the pair were soon recaptured.
