John R. O Bannon a Pettis County pioneer resident died at 7 15 this morning. He was a longtime figure in the community and his passing marks the end of an era for local residents and neighbors.
John R. O Bannon a prominent Pettis county stockman died at 7 15 am at his brother J M O Bannon s Lamonte home after a long illness He leaves a wife two children and two stepchildren and is survived by three brothers and one sister Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 30 am at Salem Church north of Lamonte with burial in the same locality Rev John Godbey of Clarksburg Mo to conduct the rites
Washington reports secretary of war Taft will not resign to run for president. He states he has no intention of entering a presidential campaign and will remain in the cabinet as long as the president desires. The Washington Post notes the Akron speech fueled but Taft reaffirms no ambitions.
Twenty persons were injured in a collision between cars on the new Williamsburg bridge this morning. The scene caused such excitement that police reserves were called to control the crowds.
William Counée was arrested this morning by Officer W. H. Boult and will be arraigned Friday morning before Magistrate Trazel on a theft charge. The alleged theft involved fruit from the Dolph grocery store on Main Street.
Fairfield Iowa Oct 26 Two Rock Island trains on the Kansas City line collided on a steep grade killing four including mail clerk John Canfield and Engineer Wilkes. Nine injured including G W Rumeny and George Fredin. Both trains behind schedule at about thirty miles per hour. Blame not yet fixed.
Chief Ed Love returns from Iola after S C Meador of Iola, accused of passing worthless checks in Sc alia. The case is in the courts and to be settled by next Monday one way or another.
William A. Pinkerton, head of the Pinkerton agency, told reporters at the Midland hotel that the whipping post and pillory are the best means to punish certain crimes and that capital punishment should be restored. he criticized mercy for a commuted killer and discussed crime deterrence during a Kansas City visit.
President Roosevelt arrived in New Orleans by special train from Memphis at 9 am to a enthusiastic reception. He spoke at City Hall, attended a banquet at the St Charles hotel, and toured safe areas before boarding a lighthouse tender for Norfolk. He plans to reach Washington by October 31.
The Missouri Pacific Eastern Division, cut off between Sedalia and St Louis by washouts and a bridge pier sinking near Isbell, Mo, was opened at 4 am. Fast Mail No 7 arrived at 11:30 am instead of 7:50 am. Trains run late on slow orders and expect schedule times to resume soon unless further trouble arises.
San Francisco authorities announced Miss Alice Roosevelt's gifts from the Orient passed through the local custom house in bond. The collection filled twenty three cases, with several reaching twelve feet in length as they headed to Washington.

Sedalia officials met with Sedalia Gas and Fuel representatives and St. Louis delegates to discuss a plan costing 75000 to 90000 dollars for a rebuilt plant and new machinery to assure adequate service for a 60000 population city.
Hopkinsville Kentucky October 26 George B Warner once jailed for the murder of Pulaski Leeds Louisville and Nashville superintendent of machinery escaped from the Western Lunatic asylum by picking locks. He fled after 9 pm through the basement and was not found missing until the next morning Descriptions have been sent out Warner who was sentenced to hang was declared insane and commuted to life He was an expert machinist and boasted no cell could hold him.
At 3 40 o clock an agreement was reached to have the gas company submit estimates for rebuilding and expanding the plant and laying new mains in new territory and in old territory as needed. Plans include electric light plant improvements. The suit against the gas company remains without prejudice until these improvements are done. Ten thousand dollars is to be deposited to insure good faith.
Dispatches report ongoing wire outages across the Russian empire due to a strike. Disorder is described in several locations as markets react, with Russian stocks falling both in London and on the Continent.
Will Landers of Hughesville and a colored man, William Gray, barely escaped drowning when their farm wagon was swept downstream while attempting to ford Muddy Creek. They cut the harness to free the team as the horses reached the bank, with the wagon and contents carried far down the stream.
Six bodies recovered from the Pacific House after a blaze at 3 a.m. in Hot Springs Arkansas. The low priced hotel near the Iron Mountain depot housed thirty five rooms last night. Victims include S. L. Lanna a railroad conductor from Denver Harry Bradley a waiter and Mrs Mack with her infant feared dead in the flames.
Paris reports Elliott Sheppard grandson of Commodore Vanderbilt was found guilty of manslaughter for fatally running down a girl with his car. He received three months in jail without respite, a fine of 600 francs, and 20,000 francs in damages to the girl's parents.
A stranger using the name W. S. Clark passed $8 checks to four saloon patrons on Wednesday afternoon. Each check bore the Joe Watkins Steam Heat and Plumbing Co. stamp and cashed at Citizens National Bank. Victims Peter Pehl Soda Bremer Louis Grieschen Ed McGurren seek police help to detain the con artist who carried a dinner pail and wore a coat over one shoulder.
Pittsburg October 26 Cunliffe an express clerk admitted stealing 101000 from Adams Express company and the judge deferred his sentence.
W. N. Hansbrough was named administrator of the estate of M. M. Hansbrough in a colonial era probate action. The appointment formalizes control of estate affairs and pending settlements under local law.
Thomas Heston, freight agent and former general yardmaster for the Missouri Pacific, resigns after two years in the post. His successor is rumored to be William N. Cormany, cashier at the freight depot, with Heston possibly returning to Texarkana, Arkansas. The company officials regret losing a valued employee.
A society wedding in Lexington Missouri united Bay Lis Steele of Kansas City and Olive Vivian Carter at the Christian church. Attendants included Virginia Hereford as maid of honor and Grace McCroskey Nadine Steele Bettie Cavin as bridesmaids. A. F. Evans served as best man with several groomsmen. A three-car special train carried about sixty guests from Kansas City to Lexington for a reception at Dr. and Mrs. John W. Meng. The couple plan a northern and eastern wedding journey and will reside at 427 Wal Road Avenue Kansas City after December 15.
A 7 30 PM court house gathering will feature speakers from the Central Railway line including Edwin C Wright Captain George R Collins ex Senator Ernest D Martin and Thomas F Marshall. The event aims to explain benefits of an interurban electric line from Sedalia to Marshall and Miami with farmers shown enthusiastic support.
