Texas provisional regiment to depart Fort Riley tomorrow at government expense, the first to leave as orders say the balance will go by Wednesday. The day’s maneuvers featured an attack and defense of an entrenched position with militia as attackers and regulars defending a ford.
Philadelphia report says William Ell Kins a millionaire traction and gas magnate was near death at midnight. His family gathered at his bedside and by morning he was resting easy. A denial was issued that his illness came from gangrene after a corn-cutting incident.
Thieves burglarized a residence Sunday night, entering every room and escaping with a large amount of booty. The house fixtures were ransacked, and authorities are investigating the burglary at the Dr. W. T. Thomas residence.
Between 7:30 and 9:30 Sunday night burglars entered the Seventh and Kentucky avenue home while Dr. W T Thomas and others were at church. They trashed seven rooms, took clothing jewelry a fever thermometer and a few rings and a lodge pin with two gold rings missing. Police found no clue.
Secretary of Commerce Cortelyou ordered the deportation of John Turner a self declared British anarchist who recently arrived in the United States. This marks the first use of the anti anarchy provision of the new immigration act and the action sent him back to Britain.

Mrs Smith died Sunday morning in the family home after a brief illness. The obituary notes her mother to Mrs. Adams and a survivor list including her husband and two children. Funeral arrangements are pending with local church services expected.
Mrs J L Smith aged 78 died Sunday at 4 AM at her home 407 East Second street from pneumonia. Born August 26 1825 in Shelby county Missouri near Palmyra she married Mr Baldwin and had two children William Baldwin and Mrs Fannie Taylor who survive in Benbow Missouri. After Mr Baldwins death she married J L Smith in 1876 at Braynard Minnesota and moved to Sedalia. Surviving also a daughter in law Mrs Hannah Baldwin and several grandchildren. She belonged to the Palmyra Methodist church and the Eastern Star. Funeral Tuesday at 2:30 PM at Calvary church conducted by Rev W T Allan with pallbearers John P Dow P H Sangree N H Rogers James Glenn H T Williams Lee Montgomery.
Brazil Ind Oct 26 The business section of Poland town ten miles southwest of Brazil was wiped out by a morning fire. The blaze began at Katman’s general store and quickly spread through the town. Loss estimated at 50000 dollars.
A W Duke of three and one half miles west of Lamonte suffered severe injuries Saturday evening after his horse crashed into a barbed wire fence. The horse died from extensive bleeding. Duke lost major blood, with doctors fearing possible amputation though Dr. Walker holds hope for saving the limb.
Henry Brown a Minneapolis lumberman was indicted for offering a 500 dollar bribe to Alderman Powers to secure a hose contract for a California firm. He pleaded not guilty and posted 3500 dollars bail.
The Ministers' Alliance met this morning to conduct routine business and discuss plans for the future. The paper The Prayer Meeting by Rev. E B Surface will be read at the next Regular meeting on October 2.
Clarence Leon ard accused of forging $10,000 checks on Haskins Sells New York while a clerk. He was arrested with Kittie Wells, a woman companion. Police recovered eight $1,000 bills from her stockings and $1,200 from Leonard.
Ruth Duncan a 12 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Cook Duncan died at their Georgetown home shortly after noon today after a long illness of diabetes Funeral arrangements have not been made.
