A Sunday afternoon blaze damaged Stark's Music Store and adjacent Dugan's and Waller's buildings. Losses for Stark, Dugan, and Waller total about five thousand dollars, all insured, with rapid water pressure preventing a greater disaster.
A major blaze near Sedalia Printing, Stark’s music store, and Dugan’s wallpaper stock caused extensive damage estimated in the thousands. Damaged areas include the Knights of Pythias lodge room, water and smoke loss to Dugan’s stock, and Starks studio. Investigators noted perishable stock and possible causes. several hundred dollars to Stark’s and Waller’s property, with Dugan’s losses exceeding 1,000.
Dr. Wood deeded to book some of the best snow on the road for the coming season. The Clara Mathes company closed a week at Wood's opera house and left for Springfield after two well attended performances Sunday. Wood praised patronage, noting high attendance and a refined audience, with plans to present elevating Sunday shows and to bring top road productions for the next season.
C M O Conner of Madison county reports Sedalia keeps hope alive as the state board of agriculture meets in Jefferson City tomorrow to settle the long running state fair location. Cities including Kansas City Mexico and Marshall push claims while Sedalia seeks title clearance and a binding bond to honor all promises. The encampment of the Missouri National Guards is tied to the decision and the board aims to finalize Sedalia’spreferred offer.
Large crowds heard Rev. Putman at the First Christian church with morning and evening sermons on City of Refuge and Pearl of Great Price. The note urged Christians to defend their faith vigorously while detailing local church services and state fair land title concerns. Sedalia leads the bid for the Missouri State Fair with 150 acres. title issues threaten delays as Audrain, Mexico, Sedalia, Moberly, Marshall and others compete.
A horse owned by Tarvey Seibert was being chased by Tittle and others near Montgomery and Broadway when it stepped in a hole and broke a leg. Special Officer Price shot the animal. Seibert had paid $450 for it earlier.
The Alliance ministers meeting at First Congregational discusses an evangelistic program to be decided at Wednesday worship across all churches. Rev. Frank A. Miller of Elgin will visit November 1 to preach at First M. E. if unions proceed, and another evangelist may be added.
The Osiris club meets this evening at Mesdames Smith and Cotton home on East Broadway. The ladies will discuss the books read by each during the summer.
The north window of J. M. Cannon's Grand Central received favorable comment this morning. It is trimmed in autumn leaves red and gold with autumn dress goods on display, presenting an artistic decorating effort by Cannon's artists.
Residents gathered three miles east of the city for an Old Folks Day program at the Grange Hall. The event featured a musical and literary program at the church and a sermon by Rev. Melvin Putman, with solo by Mr. Gornall and recitations by several young ladies. Sedalians attended and participated.
