At New York services for James K. Gracie the president and Mrs. Roosevelt attended this morning. A white bearded man handed Roosevelt a paper he discarded after reading it. Detectives seized him and hustled him to headquarters. The paper advertised a patent medicine.

Will Six drove the P. Brandt Grocer team when a broken tree caused the team to bolt near W. J. Letts' grocery. They ran about three blocks through East Sedalia this morning before stopping. The wagon sustained only slight damage.
Mrs. John Ejisenburg of 1022 East Tenth Street welcomed about forty members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the B. of R. T. on Wednesday evening. A delightful time was spent with refreshments served.
George R. Smith post G A R read Tim Collins death notice at their meeting. He died at the Soldiers Home in Leavenworth Kansas about two weeks ago. He formerly resided here and served as constable of Sedalia.
The Sedalia High School and All Star team faced Boonville High in a tense match. Sam Stevens, son of Capt. and Mrs. E W Stevens, suffered a badly wrenched back during the second half and was cared for by a Boonville physician before returning home. Roscoe Sutton of Sedalia was injured early but rejoined play. Boonville won 6 to 5, and a postgame banquet honored Sedalia.
Mayor J L Babcock leads Sedalia delegates to St Louis to meet Missouri Pacific vice president Russell Harding about locating the railroad shops here. The group includes J L Babcock W L Porter H W Menschke W Fr Powell C F E Yeater and W A Latimer with attorney James T Montgomery joining for the talks.
Joe White cigarmaker employed by Henry Pehling was riding a street car with a friend and, while attempting to alight near Marion Warmer's confectionery store, fell and struck the brick pavement. He suffered two deep gashes and a brain concussion and is described as in a precarious condition at his home 904 East Fifteenth street.
James Harper at 800 East Thirteenath street reported a morning blaze that destroyed a barn and its contents including a survey buggy and feed. A horse was saved. origin unknown. estimated loss about 300 dollars, with partial insurance. Barn owned by Mrs Leaking.
Saturday at 1 o'clock J R Weir will sell a fine lot of heavy draft brood mares and colts at Hinsdale's mule barn. This is one of the best lots of animals ever sold on this market. Farmers and everyone interested in draft stock should not miss this sale. Everything will be sold to the highest bidder, and good values can be had. Capt Stevens conducts the sale assisted by Col C J Hieronymus.
David Webster chief electrician for the street railway company fell from the derrick car at Eleventh and Ohio while holding a rope. The rope snapped to prevent a fall between cars and he jumped down injuring his heel and ankle. He returned home to 1111 South Lamine street and saw Dr Shirk. His condition improved.
Luther Brent of this city is appointed by President Shively of the Missouri Valley league to join the staff of umpires for the upcoming baseball season.
