Beaman Missouri Nov 7 sensational charges between two respected Salem area citizens centered on a young colored woman’s delicate health and a white neighbor who threatened with a shotgun. Accusations shifted as witnesses awaited further sensational developments.
In Springfield north yards a switch engine with no lights backed into two freight engines bound for the roundhouse, killing three men Engineer William J. Nichols Fireman Harry P. Ross and Switchman Edward Turner. Turner was crushed on the running board and Ross died from burns. Nichols lay beneath Ross. One road engine had been moved from Crescent after a prior wreck. Also noted is the resignation of J. H. Lahey Iron Mountain Missouri division superintendent who will join Kansas City Southern. Thomas Creary foreman of the blacksmith shop resigns to accompany Lahey.
Miss Belle Kingsbaker wed Mr. Alex Block of Carthage Mo in a pink and white ceremony led by Rabbi Harry Mayer. The reception followed with a lavish banquet, gifts of sterling silver, and a bridal tour planned to Chicago and eastern cities.
Shobe, a colored man, left town after trying to sell twenty bushels of corn to Will Menefee and shipping out to Hot Springs Arkansas. He had been hired to haul corn for Charles Wells and Fred Lange and attempted fraud due to missing requisition papers, a minor offense.
A brief notice states Brooks' Skeeter Regulator is sold at Bard's Drug Store for 10 cents, indicating a local sales promotion or product offer.
In Criminal Court the case of Les Wells was cited for theft. In the state versus C B Rhodimer a verdict of acquittal was returned on charges of receiving stolen goods. Rhodimer operates a junk shop in East Sedalia and was acquitted. Notes of the Road report Jack Richards of the Missouri Pacific yards laid off at Tipton due to his brother's ill child. Maurice McCabe, a Missouri Pacific machinist, resumed work after sickness. Five firemen faced promotion exams in St Louis. Ed Kershaw, recently promoted Missouri Pacific engineer, returned from Ossawatomie Kansas to duty in the St Louis yards due to drinking water issues.
Executive officers of the Western lines yesterday reaffirmed the old pass agreement for 1902 with changes. The issue of passes to owners of small roads and to owners and employees of refrigerator and other private car concerns is to be discontinued.
