President Roosevelt reached Reno at 7 this morning amid cheering crowds at small stations. He carries a souvenir a carved sugar pine slab from Yosemite area with a grove image and a greeting from the citizens of Bareda.
J. W. Johnson of Leeds Co. became the first victim of the anti spitting ordinance as Judge Truxel arraigned him in police court and fined $2. He was granted a stay of execution and 30 minutes to leave the city. Charlie Moore faced intoxication charges and was fined $5.
Andrew Davis died this morning at the home of his fiancée just before his wedding was to take place. The death occurred in the company of family and friends, with arrangements likely to be announced by the household.
Andrew J. Davis 24, of St. Louis, died in Sedalia after a long illness. He wished to die at his fiancee Ethel Baldwin’s home and be buried in Sedalia, a wish granted. He leaves father R. E. Davis, three brothers and four sisters. funeral by the Jefferson City Red Men with burial in city cemetery.
Indianapolis May 19 Booth Tarkington the author long ill with typhoid fever for six weeks has rapidly declined since morning. He had just finished a four act play titled The Man on Horseback before falling ill and his relatives have lost hope of recovery.

New Orleans May 19 United Confederate Veterans begin their thirteenth annual reunion. General Gordon commander in chief appeared to cheers and delivered the annual address. Memorial services for Jefferson Davis were held at noon. Two thousand veterans and ten thousand visitors attended.
Benjamin Jones head of Jones and Laughlin Steel died at his Aleghaney home at age 79. A pioneer iron master, he chaired the Republican committee in the Blaine Cleveland campaign and was a staunch protectionist and McKinley supporter. His estate is valued at about fifty million dollars.
