A morning collision on the Pennsylvania Railroad unites passenger and freight trains in a fearsome wreck causing injuries to riders and damage to cars and cargo. Rescue crews work amid chaos and assess the scene for survivors and losses.
May 11 Harrisburg reports twenty dead and about 100 injured after a Cincinnati Cleveland Express collision with a Pennsylvania freight train. Two dynamite cars exploded, fire spread through both trains, 169 passengers aboard, many bodies burned beyond recognition. Rescue work continued as eighteen bodies were recovered by noon and officials warned the death toll would rise.
A blaze discovered before 8 last evening in the Queen City Telephone storage room on South Ohio street damaged copper wire tools and insulated telephones. The fire, likely from a live wire, began on the third floor of the Peter Brandt building at Fifth and Ohio. Losses total about 50 dollars for the building, 800 dollars for the telephone company, both covered by insurance. Mr. Brandt moved stock to prevent water damage from the blaze.
Sedalia B P O E lodge No.125 received its charter this morning by pro forma decree from Secretary of State John E. Swanger. Plans for a new three story building at Third and Lamine streets progress, with construction likely to start within thirty days and be completed rapidly. Upper floor to be used for lodge and social purposes including reading room club room reception rooms parlors and other rooms with high quality furnishings.
Nashville Tenn May 11 One of the most notable shooting tournaments in this part of the country opened at Cumberland Park under club direction. A large field of crack professionals and amateurs is competing as the two day event begins.
Philadelphia May 11 Mrs Gertrude Reagan 16 a child wife deserted her baby in Elmwood woods near the city to keep her husband’s affection. She told Magistrate Moore she loved her child but feared losing her husband if she kept it and agreed to have the infant cared for by others. A warrant issued for the husband for abandonment and neglect to support. She posted $500 bail for a further hearing.
Sedalia area lawmakers consider adjustments to cope with a sixteen hour law. M T and Co. or M. K. & T. involvement noted as part of the regulatory planning.
Sedalia observers expect M K T plans to shift the Sedalia St Louis division to Mokane. A new engine round house south of Fifth Street is planned, potentially starting in 60 to 90 days. The change would add 40 to 50 families to Sedalia as crews move from Franklin Junction to Sedalia.
Snyder Oklahoma suffered a catastrophic twister that killed over a hundred and left seven eighths of its buildings a total loss. The Frisco round house hotel cotton gins and compress were demolished as relief crews arrived from Hobart and Wanamah.

A rubber social tonight at Mrs. H. W. Servant's home on West Broadway raises funds for the Calvary church organ builders. Refreshments will be served and each guest is asked to bring a piece of rubber.
Snyder a hustling busy city of the new country was struck by a cyclone last night and almost totally destroyed. Hardly a building left standing. Residents displaced and emergency crews on scene.
Hobart Oklahoma reports 60 dead and 60 injured after a cyclone struck Snyder at 9 p m. Relief teams from Mangum Lawton and Vernon assist. Property losses exceed 300000 with extensive destruction including the business district and depots.
From Lawton Oklahoma on May 11 at 4 am reports say communication with Snyder Oklahoma failed. The street report indicates most of the town is destroyed and several hundred people killed or injured. Snyder sits as a Frisco railroad division point with about 2500 residents.
A report says every house in Snyder except Ways hardware and the Frisco round house is destroyed. Estimated 250 killed and 509 wounded. Communications with the district are down. A relief train is expected from Snyder at 11 o'clock.
In Sedalia circuit court two juries failed to agree in the Seda lia Hardware and Grocery company v J M Offield case and in J E Nicholson et al v J W Stough et al. Other entries include E H Hall vs R V Denny and W P Lovelace vs J W Menee fee with a 1 cent judgment for the plaintiff. Frank Landmann et al vs City of Sedalia awarded $99.50 to the plaintiff. Bethlehem PA May 11 The Phi Upsilon fraternity annual convention began today with Eta chapter at Lehigh University hosting. Two business sessions were held and this evening the visitors will be entertained at the Northampton County Country Club.
Denison Texas May 11 The Southwestern Gas Electric and Street Railway association opened its meeting with a large attendance. Sessions run through tomorrow and Saturday with papers read and discussions on gas electric lighting and street railway matters.
