Sedalia Singers Sweep Chorus Prizes in Kansas City

Sedalia's men and mixed chorus groups won first second and third prizes at the Kansas City May music festival. The Gentlemen's Musical Club directed by Glenn Wood took first with $200, the Ladies' Musical Club directed by Mrs. W D Steele took second with $100, and the mixed chorus prize of $300 went to the Ladies' and Gentlemen's clubs directed by Mrs. Steele. Other awards went to Joplin Emporia Leavenworth and Kansas City groups with scores and judges' percentages listed.

Royal welcome home for Sedalia singers

A festival homecoming unfolds as Sedalia’s fair and triumphant singers return by train at 4 10 this afternoon. An open landau is prepared with Mrs W D Steele director of the ladies and mixed choruses and Mr Glenn Woods director of the men’s chorus aboard. Local citizens will draw the carriage, praising the group whose Kansas City laurels are noted. An impromptu saengerfest also occurred on the trip with the St Louis orchestra aboard.

Three Boys Jailed Over Destruction of Soda Fountain

Three boys aged twelve to fourteen were jailed on malicious destruction of property and theft charges after breaking into an East Third street storeroom and damaging a soda fountain to recover scrap iron. They allegedly broke the front of the fountain and sold trimmings to a junk dealer. The case, with a claimed damage over 500 dollars, will proceed to a hearing before Judge Rogers at 10 tomorrow.

Cyclone Destroys Orchard Near Pettis City

A funnel shaped cyclone struck C. H. Oliver's orchard two and a half miles west of Pettis City last Monday. It uprooted about two dozen trees some as large as a man and hurled loose lumber a quarter mile. The cloud moved southeast to northwest and disappeared after a noon strike.

Hog collision halts Frisco train at Bois D Arc

The Southeastern Limited bound for Kansas City struck a drove of hogs across the Bois D arc track at 7 am. Twenty one hogs were crushed under the speeding train and the engine pilot was demolished. Passengers were shaken but no injuries reported.
