Chattanooga Tenn March 14 It has been decided that the democratic caucus of the Tennessee legislature will meet Wednesday night to nominate a successor for the late Senator William B Bate. Leaders expect Governor J B Frazier ex Governor Benton McMillan and R L Taylor to enter the race. Frazier supporters claim he holds a majority of pledged votes.
Funeral services for James Martin Reid who died Sunday morning were held at 2 PM at the Christian church in Smithton. A preliminary service occurred at the family residence at Eightenth and Summit streets with Rev. J. Lincoln Ellis officiating before burial in the city cemetery.
Mrs. J. E. Armstrong and children return from Moberly where their son Frank Armstrong recovered from an operation on the side performed five weeks ago at his grandmother’s home. He has fully recovered.
Chillicothe, March 14. Charles Corrie, prominent Chillicothe businessman and councilman at large, left for Delaver, Wisconsin to marry Mrs. Elizabeth Fisk, a wealthy widow, on Wednesday. The couple were childhood sweethearts who parted and married others before reuniting.

Nineteen tenants in a New York City tenement perish in a devastating blaze. Fire officials report rapid flames and smoke, with victims trapped inside, as authorities investigate the cause and evacuation failures.
A blaze in an old five story tenement on Allen Street in New York killed nineteen or more people and injured at least sixteen. Fifteen bodies were recovered while six are missing. The fire started in a ground floor paint shop and the building, housing about 140 residents, was a total loss with more than $200000 in property damage. Firefighters and police formed a human chain to rescue over twenty people as the stairs and fire escapes filled with people trying to escape the flames.
The marriage of Rev. Alfred A. Gilman and Miss Gertrude Carter, both longtime missionaries, was held on Washington's Birthday in Hankow. The pair, who began their romance in Philadelphia school days, will continue joint missionary work in China.
