Over a thousand people were evacuated from a flooded district this morning as rescue teams worked to secure homes and clear waterlogged streets. Emergency crews coordinated with local officials to manage supplies and shelter.
St Louis faces severe flood disruption with 1500 still refusing to evacuate while looters threaten unprotected property. Officials deploy five militia companies as Broadway through Ninth Street floods. Food supplies tighten with milk shortages and price spikes hitting staples. Two thousand people shelter in box cars alongside tracks as rescue continues.
Two children died from flood exposure and were buried at Granite City in the new Methodist cemetery on a high spot, with coffins carried by skiff. The funeral for John C. Porter was held this afternoon from 509 West Third Street under the auspices of K O T M and Knights of Pythias. Porter was a member of Crescent Tent Knights of the Macabees Queen City Lodge No 52 Knights of Pythias and Sedalia Lodge No 1 Royal Tribe of Joseph with insurance totaling 8000 plus a small NY Life policy. Floral tributes were extensive and Crescent Tent No 4 K O T M featured a centerpiece showing the crescent and globe emblem. Pallbearers from the Maccabees included L. E. Fisher W. D. Igenfritz Rev. D. H. Ayers Rev. J. I. Orrison W. C. Evans and M. Weiseburg.
