The Nevada Post denounces the home team's refusal to continue after umpire Canley ruled first base. It notes two Nevada players were blocked by the call, a Sedalia player was awarded a base, and Nevada forfeited the game 9 to 0 with visitors leading 5 to 3 at stoppage. Prof Murphy says the club remains intact and ready to play.
Lee Garvin of Sedalia debuted for St Joseph Sunday as catcher. He showed solid arm and strong batting, collecting two of five hits off Glade, including a neat double. The Little Prospects beat the Little Franklins 34 to 24 on Missouri and Second streets, with Lennartz and Kahrs behind the plate and Burk and Pfeiffer for the Franklins. Lawler made the standout catch.
Charlies Carr left for Sedalia today to join the Sedalia baseball club as reported by the State Tribune.
Acting Mayor J. L. Babcock won the special election to succeed the late Dr. S. K. Crawford with 652 more votes than socialist candidate J. O. Fisher in a unusually light turnout city race. Ward by ward totals followed.
Sedalia postmaster Capt John M Glenn reports four petitions for rural routes from Sedalia into Pettis county, but over three thousand petitions ahead in line. An inspector plans a quick review visit, routes will cover northeast southeast south and southwest areas. Pettis now has one route from Hughesville as government expands rural mail service despite delays. J W Marsteller, deputy US mine inspector, visited local mines and praised cave specimens from Uncle Sam Mining. cave to be opened and investigated in two weeks.
In the past two months twelve companies left St. Joseph, forty-eight quit Kansas City in the last year, and forty-nine mutuals in the state ceased business. The report claims many leaders avoided receivership thanks to asset accumulation, a factor cited to justify higher rates.
The Prize Draw in El Reno began Monday for 13 000 land claims with 165 000 participants. Winners in the first 1000 claims include Stephen Holcomb Pauls Valley Leonard Lamb Augusta and James Wood Weatherford Mattie Beals Wichita. Sedalia resident none. Jonathan Allison Longwood Pettis listed as 100th drawn.
