Charles Wasson, held on suspicion of complicity with Theodore Crawford in last week’s forgeries, was released after Crawford declined to testify. He then received one day in jail for disturbing the peace. Crawford’s case was continued to Thursday afternoon.
Henry Owens is transported to Versailles for a preliminary hearing after killing James Lawrence in Sedalia street encounter. Owens, held in Sedalia jail, expects waiver and return to Sedalia for trial or grand jury action. Deputy Lumpee leads the transfer. Owens cites self defense and Lawrence’s record as factors. A venue change brings Moses W. Clay et al versus Union Wholesale Publishing to the county. Thomas Ambies released after 30 days for petit larceny. Best place is Sedalia Steam Laundry.
President W. H. Council of the Negro Agricultural and Mechanical College delivered the oration on Negro Day at the State Fair. He lauded the white woman of the South, claimed she maintains racial purity, and argued educated Blacks seek virtue and dignity within their own sphere rather than social equality. He said the ignorant among his race desires equality of the races.
Mr. E Seifert of Cannon's Grand Central returns from a ten day trip to New York City with ideas for expanding the women's ready to wear section. He inspected leading stores and factories to study systems styles and materials. Cannon's will enhance the department this season promising finer goods better fits and lower costs in spring and summer 1902.

Rev. J. D. Murphy, a former Sedalia Baptist pastor who once led a Moberly church, was spotted at the station en route to Des Moines to visit his daughter. He has suffered malarial fever abroad that has left him greatly weakened.
Miss Nellie Stone and James F. Duncan wed via phonograph after quarantine closed the home of relatives in Oswego. The device captured the vows spoken by Stone in the presence of witnesses, then the recorder was sealed and the ceremony completed at the Duncan residence by a clergyman. The wedding is claimed legal.
John Payne and Marion Skillman confronted Richard White a recent reform school escapee burglarizing Skillman grocery in Fayette Payne alarmed the home and returned with Skillman to find White breaking into the money drawer White resisted and was felled by an ax handle strike rendered unconscious He was jailed and turned over to the sheriff.
Murphy and Mason with Harry Ward's Magnificent Minstrels promise a packed opera house tonight. The team plays every instrument and keeps the audience in uproar. Ward leads a top minstrel company claiming the cream of the field. Admission tops at 50 cents.
In a Sunday interview Fred H. Binder, a wealthy state capital resident, explains the Missouri Pacific division was moved from Jefferson City and Chamois to Sedalia about 1873 after absorbing the M K & T line. He estimates the loss of monthly pay to Jefferson City employees at 7 000, totaling 84 000 yearly and 2 426 000 over twenty nine years, a conservative figure.

Officer Charles Leftwich asks The Sentinel to inform friends he has not yet seen that he remains in the race for the Democratic nomination for constable and will issue further statements on the matter soon.
Lonnie Monsees proprietor of the Beaman drug store and Dr Statz of Beaman completed a deal in the city with Statz becoming the new proprietor. Monsees has no announced plans for the future.
Bayliss Steele of Kansas City and brother of W. D. Steele of Sedalia is listed as a director of the Osceola Monegan Springs and Western road chartered on Saturday.
The retail lumbermen of Missouri Kansas and Oklahoma will meet in annual convention in Kansas City tomorrow. Directors B W Zimmerman W M Johns and W J Sears of Sedalia will attend.
S. M. Monsees returned from Illinois and Indiana with three registered stallions one German coach stallion and four registered jacks. They will be sold at Monsees & Sons twenty fifth semi annual sale on March 4 along with a fine lot of other blooded stock.
James Wilkerson and H A Stead, supreme deputies for the Select Knights and Ladies, will travel to Higginville to organize a new lodge. Last Friday thirteen new members joined New Life lodge No 36 in this city, with twelve more to be admitted next Friday. A free coffee and cake social will follow at Glass hall for members.
The Rev. J. S. Bitler formerly pastor of the First M. E. Church in Sedalia is delivering lectures at the Oakland Methodist Church in Chicago.
