Mr W G Streit of Otterville and Miss Cammie Reed of Otterville arrive in Sedalia for a 7 30 pm ceremony at the South Methodist church parsonage with Rev A H Barnes officiating. The bride is daughter of A M Reed a retired Bank of Commerce officer. groom a prominent farmer. The couple will return to Otterville Friday.
Justice Burr's court scheduled a preliminary examination for Wednesday February 2. Bush was released on bond of 1500 dollars with bondsmen Dr Sidney Conkwright and EFA Sampson. Perry remains in jail.
Moge F Rainey sues the Missouri Pacific Railroad Co in Pettis circuit court seeking 10000 dollars for injuries from a defective freight car door that fell and struck him in June 1896. He also seeks a release signed a month before the permanent injury became known. Attorney J D Bobling represents Rainey.
The ad promotes cheap coal including Whipple Rich Hill Nat Lexington and other soft coal grades plus Scranton anthracite and seasoned wood. It also lists feed sewer pipe vitrified brick and fire brick with yard and downtown office locations and a phone number.
Whipple Coal Co invites customers to continue business in 1998 or try them in 1997 if needed. They promise fair pricing and courteous service to build regular patronage and urge readers to call.
H C Tannehill of Simmons Hardware Co St Louis died of pneumonia at Wheatland Missouri yesterday. His wife died in Sedalia a year earlier. Tannehill was driving through Benton county when located by a messenger at Wheatland four days after her death. Remains to be shipped to Osborne Ohio by McLaughlin Bros for burial.
Last night services at the First M E Church impressed with a stirring sermon by Rev Stauffer and Miss Kirby’s captivating singing. A number came forward as seekers and tonight John Lamm leads at 6 30 in the lecture room with 7 30 services in the auditorium.
Miss Laura Morey hosted a large party in Sedalia last evening honoring Miss Frances Wood of Elgin Illinois. A progressive prize was featured and after a series of games the event concluded with social toasts and congratulations. A separate notice advertises a 65 acre farm with new house basement and 400 apple trees for sale or trade. Also a drug ad promotes Laxative Bromo Quinine Tablets with a 25 cent price and guaranteed cure.
Governor Stephens appointed N. H. Gentry of Sedalia as commissioner to the Trans Mississippi and International exposition in Omaha. Gentry is a noted hog breeder with prior World’s Fair service in 1893. Sedalia also counts Judge J. N. Dalby and John W. Baldwin among the commission members.
Lucille Ledford, recently treated for suicide attempts at Sedalia City Hospital, was arrested in Clinton for allegedly stealing two dresses from Mrs J. K. Kidd at Hotel Le Grande. She is described as mentally unsound and will not be arraigned due to her condition. authorities will confer with her parents on disposition.
Miss Cootsie Miles won a silver hair receiver and Frank Monroe earned a silver soap box after a ladies event. A luncheon and dance followed. Six individuals, including Thomas Bored and Delphia Jackson, were released from jail for trespass and disturbing the peace. Sedalia liverymen Harrison Stevens offer carriages for events. telephone 167 for carriages.
An old advertisement states the product fails to cure. It warns that genuine tablets bear L. B. Q. on each tablet and prices the item at 25 cents.
Beach and Bowers led an ensemble of skilled musicians to present a refined programme last night. The performance featured precise ensemble work and notable solos that impressed the audience.
Seventy seven pauper insane from Jackson County were moved from Little Blue county farm to the state asylum at Fulton aboard Chicago & Alton cars. Sheriff Stone led the party of men and women, with two chained, one violent Negro and a compliant elderly man guarding him. Attendants recited fears and loyalties as the group departed, some resisting leaving the only home they knew.

The Rev. C. A. Buchanan lectured to a full house on the theme Grin and Bear It or Laugh and Grow Fat. His humorous hits and eloquence pleased listeners as he controlled the audience at will.
Secretary Gray of the Sedalia Board of Trade reported a Washington letter addressing Sedalians protest over moving postal clerks from Sedalia to Kansas City. The letter says the issue will be considered before any action and will be filed for authorities to decide.
L Kinder brakeman on Missouri Pacific train No. 128 fell from the unit at Otterville yesterday afternoon. A passing truck severed his left foot at the ankle. He is married with a wife and child and resides at 525 South Twenty Third street St. Louis. He was admitted to the Missouri Pacific hospital in St. Louis.
Two Missouri Kansas and Texas freight trains collided at a switch six miles south of Muskogee Indian Territory. Fifteen cattle were killed and brakeman Sarchie was seriously injured. He was brought to the hospital this morning. The engineer of the northbound train had fallen asleep.
Rev J D Catlin of Atoka Oklahoma Territory accepted the call to become pastor of the Central Presbyterian church in Sedalia filling the vacancy from Rev R R Marquis moving to Quincy Illinois. Catlin, graduate of McCormick Theological College Chicago, recently married to an Indian woman in Atoka, and both are welcomed in Sedalia.
