Higbee Mo January 24 Randolph Cough company sealed the largest coal land deal in Northern Missouri, paying over 1 million dollars to absorb Interstate Mining and its holdings. R A Stanley of Stanley Coal Company held one sixth of Interstate stock and served as vice president and sales agent. The deal transfers 1000 acres near Higbee with a 300 ton daily shaft output to the new firm, with Harriman interests suspected to back the project.
The Sedalia agency confirms the Higbee coal operation will keep the same agents under the contract, continuing the arrangement established in the past for future dealings.
Mrs. Louisa Cody answers Col. William F. Cody Buffalo Bill’s suit alleging indignities and poison attempts. She counter charges infidelity. Judge Scott set hearing for February 14 in Cheyenne Wyoming.
Mrs. George Waite, living several miles from Trenton, shot and probably fatally wounded her father William Melsae, a well known and wealthy farmer, yesterday in Trenton Missouri.
Mexican Pete Everett, described as a pusilist, was sent to the work house for failing to pay a ten dollar fine for being drunk and disorderly. He recently left the Lansing Michigan penitentiary where he served one year for taking part in a prize fight at Shawnee Oklahoma.
Mrs. Margaret Weikal aged 55 died this morning at 11 20 at her home 324 East Fourteenth street from dropsy. She leaves her husband L C Weikal and children William Grover Walter Weikal Mrs W L Brummer Mrs Annie Ogan of Kansas City and Ada Weikal. Funeral plans not complete likely at the family home with service at 10 Wednesday then burial in Lamote.
Jefferson City January 24 The joint assembly ballot failed to elect a United States senator as Niedringhaus dropped to 78 votes while Kerens and Goodrich gained minor support. A second ballot produced the same result amid party infighting and continued balloting prompted by Bothwell's call.
