A Frisco passenger train derailed near Lamar this morning causing injuries. Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported some passengers to local hospitals for treatment. Investigators began assessing damage and cause as rail service temporarily halted.
Lamar Missouri January 22 Frisco northbound passenger No 104 wrecked near Everton twenty miles east of Lamar. Engineer Fischer of Fort Scott killed. fireman Gillett and mail clerk badly hurt. Cars left track. switch lock broken and light set to show clear track. No clue to wreckers found. Previous wrecking attempts reported at the same spot.
New York January 22 Mrs Anne Clegg Taylor sister in law of Minister Bowen of Venezuela was sentenced to six months in the Magdalen home. She and Bowen are Clegg family from Galveston Texas. Taylor has been arrested here four times for intoxication. Her aunt had her arrested to save her from a life on the streets. Mr Taylor, a Galveston man, had previously stopped the allowance he paid her fearing it would ruin her.
The prosecution wrapped its case in the trial of Colonel Lynch charged with high treason for fighting the Boer cause. A deposition from American L. L. Handley was read, recounting Lynch saying he fought for fun and acknowledging he was a British subject.
Prof. Thomas P. Bailey Jr of the Chicago University will give a preliminary lecture on Shakespeare at the high school tomorrow afternoon at 5 o clock. A cordial invitation is extended to all.

Congressman Curtis conceded Low's nomination by the Republican caucus for the United States senatorship and released supporters from loyalty to vote for him. Calderhead also quit the race. Long is likely to be nominated by acclamation.
Sylvester Schwank released from an asylum ran amuck at the Kansas City police station after being told no property was found. He shot Policeman McKinney in the head and wounded Lieutenant Ihkenden before jailer Siersdorfer subdued him. McKinney’s injuries were reported as probably fatal.
Mara caibo January 22 A Mara caibo report says German warships Panther and Falke bombarded Fort San Carlos, passed the fort into Lake Maracaibo, and captured the Venezuelan gunboat Miranda. The San Carlos village was burned and an ancient fort gun exploded aiding German victory.
The House unanimously ordered the committee on naval affairs to investigate a claim by Congressman Lessler of New York that a $5000 bribe was offered to sway votes on building more Holland submarine boats.
London bank ruptcy court approved a plan to settle Lord Hope's debts by paying ten shillings per pound, about fifty cents on the dollar. Lord Hope was the former husband of May Yoke who fled with Capt. Strong, son of ex Mayor Strong of New York.
Sedalia residents celebrate a proposed electric line from Sedalia to Miami to connect the region. The project promises significant local benefits and a broader gateway for northern travel, per the Lincoln Republican commentary.
President Castro urged Minister Bower to lodge a protest to the Allies against continued German fleet attacks on Venezuela. State Department officials say the German commander's actions were unwise. They note international law bars binding agreements obtained by duress. Castro may reject the eventual decision on this basis.
Washington January 22 guests at the White House reception for the Judiciary will view a newly installed fifteen thousand dollar concert grand piano designed for the mansion. It features gold trim paintings and the shields of the thirteen original states.
