Jefferson City report says Joseph Flory will consult counsel before resigning as railroad and warehouse commissioner, prompting Senate to withdraw Governor Stephens nominations by a slim majority. Dockery now holds power to make appointments, with current incumbents likely to hold over if he delays new nominations. A game preservation bill was introduced in the Senate.
At a Monday meeting Convention Hall workers voted to rally public support for the January 24 distribution. Aimed at raising 3000 as a starter, volunteers will collect prizes and ticket sales while a bonus program rewards top sellers. A committee will visit donors and a headquarters briefing is set for Saturday at 7 30 pm.
W B Groseclose succeeds A T Drew as general freight agent after Drews death. Officials to inspect system on a tour, with vice president Russell Harding among those leading the visit. Clinton and Nevada incidents include mules on track and a fatal railway collision reported near Clinton.
Missouri State Fair Association officers are arranging dates for next fall to avoid major surrounding fairs. They propose September 16 to 21 as set by the American Association of Fairs and Expositions, but unsettled equinoctial weather may push decisions. The plan aims to send fine stock to Necviac Iowa Illinois and St Louis shows and to Missouri itself.
A man calling himself R F Golden preached in Lamar near Boston for a week claiming ministry. Sheriff Joe Jackson of Lincoln County Kansas tracked him for alleged horse and cart theft and college book theft, arrested him in Boston, and transported him to Lincoln. Jefferson City reports the Missouri Federation of Labor held its tenth annual convention.
The Jefferson City trip offers round trip tickets for $1.50. The Convention Hall minstrels charter a special car for the 12:40 train on Wednesday. Tickets are limited and sold first come, first served. Apply to F. E. Hoffman. The Second Regiment band will accompany the group and enthusiasm runs high. Attorney R A Higdon left for Versailles to conduct a foreclosure sale of a 600 acre ranch owned by Louis Welpman.
S. R. Geist and Minnie B. Simms of Sedalia, along with Preston Randolph and Evan Root of Postal, applied for marriage licenses.
Sedalia Flambeau club met to decide on chartering three cars from Missouri Pacific for a Washington D. C. trip to President McKinley’s inauguration. They await General Passenger Agent Townsend’s reply and plan a further meeting next Tuesday night.
The Acme Review issued by the Acme Fraternal Union is a sixteen page pamphlet produced by Fisher Printing Company. The publication will now be released every two months.
Owing to a mild grippe Miss Stanley will not meet her class at Grege's hall this evening. The class will reconvene Friday evening at 7 30 followed by informal dancing at 8 30.
Former Pettis County resident Marian Fisher died Sunday at 10 30 in Warrensburg of consumption. Survived by four children three preceded her in death and daughter Mrs Rachel Zion of Freeman was present at the funeral. She lived in Johnson County 18 years after leaving Pettis County where she grew up. A member of the M E Church South, Rev Rader conducted funeral services at 4 PM at the house.
The Chase-Lister company drew a large audience for a week long engagement with a new bill each night and two special matinees. Prices ranged 16 20 and 30 cents with matinee bargains at 10 cents for all seats. Tonight's play is Mystic Mountain promising broad appeal.
A colored gentleman and a white man played a craps game yesterday afternoon in a courthouse setting. The colored participant collected $1.50 from his white counterpart while several court house attaches watched with interest.
The Royal Tribe of Joseph met in their lodge rooms with installed officers. Col. Van K. Wisker showed stereopticon views and members enjoyed an oyster supper.
Frank Loeffler, manager of the Loeffler-Guenther Shoe Company, has left on a sales trip via Kansas City Omaha and Texas to Boston with a full line of samples and will take orders.
Dr. Robert Yancey, formerly with the M. K. & IT hospital in Dallas, has returned from a Chicago post graduate course and will open an office there.
The Convention Hall Minstrel company will practice tonight at Leiderkranz hall near Kosted's grocery store. All members are earnestly requested to be present.
Mrs. Fred Meredith wife of a prominent farmer near Warrensburg died Sunday morning of heart trouble She will be buried at Pleasant Green Cooper County
