Reports from St Petersburg detail continued fighting along the Shake River as Russians plan a resumed offensive. Admirals Skrydloff and Jessen are reassigned with Port Arthur parolee status for eighty officers. The aged Mrs. Mary Culbertson died last night in Lutman under unclear circumstances. Local authorities and family relatives are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death. Police say no foul play is suspected at this time and the case remains under investigation.
Mrs. Mary Culbertson aged 69, widow and mother of Julia McQueen, died by hanging in Henry Demand’s barn at Lutman Pettis County. Demand found her body Thursday afternoon after visiting to feed stock. She had recently lived with her daughter in Sedalia and hoped to enter the Soldiers Home. Funeral set for Saturday in the Baptist ground northeast of Lutman.

Jefferson City Jan 6 Governor Dockery was asked to pardon State Senator Sullivan who was fined one hundred dollars for soliciting a bribe tied to the Baking Powder legislation. The aim is to restore Sullivan to citizenship.
New York Jan 6 J C Bach and Co bankers report the Missouri Pacific Railway has ordered wage reductions for conductors on the system. It is said the cut may extend to all trainmen including engineers firemen and brakemen. Local railroad men could not confirm the dispatch.
Washington January 6 The civil service commission has received a large number of applications for examinations to be held for positions with the Panama canal commission next week Salaries range from 75 to 250 dollars per month and applicants must submit an unmounted photogram of themselves with the application Examinations begin Monday next.
St Louis Jan 6 Mayor Wells was summoned to appear in court after Wasserman & company ticket brokers applied to submit evidence behind the firm’s license revocation on December 22. They say they operated ticket offices in St Louis paying $100 licenses and claim the mayor ordered an investigation that led to the revocation without lawful authority.
Louisville hosts the Kentucky Press association as editors gather in the chamber of the general council. The two day meeting covers political and journalistic issues with delegates planning a Sunday departure for Cuba on the annual tour.
Denver January 6 The joint session of the Colorado legislature opened to canvass votes for state officials. A Republican caucus approved appointing a sixteen member committee to investigate election fraud in Denver city and county with a report due next Monday. Peabody’s election will await the committee's findings. Some Republicans oppose the caucus agreement.
A Michigan woman is accused of poisoning her husband driven by affection for a man she hired. Authorities allege a deliberate poisoning as part of a complex motive involving romance and deceit.
In Mason Michigan on January 6 1900 police report Mrs Carrie Joslyn confessed to poisoning her husband William Joslyn over two weeks by serving arsenic in coffee and later lemonade. The motive was to marry the hired man Isaac Swan who aided the plot. Joslyn’s body was exhumed and chemical tests found arsenic. Swan fled and remains at large. Mrs Joslyn was jailed with her two young children present.
The Daughters of the Confederacy held their annual election at Mrs. M B Coleman home. New officers include President Mrs. W H Powell First vice president Mrs Moore Second vice president Mrs Henry W Harris Treasurer Mrs John A Collins Recording secretary Mrs John Menefee Jr Corresponding secretary Mrs C H Rider. They planned a Valentine social on February 14 to raise funds for a Confederate monument at Higginsville.
George A. Moore of Sandusky Ohio aged 35 was arraigned in probate court on a lunacy charge. He sat for hours in a chair or stood briefly then sat again never walking, and was labeled the Champion Lazy Man of Ohio. He was sent to the State hospital.
In Justice Kinsey's court this morning several disturbance of the peace cases were disposed of. Frank Wagner was sent to jail for ten days after a fight on Third Street. James Lloyd received ten days for insulting a young girl, Henry Taylor five days for a lesser offense. FarI White a morphine fiend claimed ownership of the Missouri Pacific and was given five days. In Justice Rogers' court John Freeman was jailed five days for drunken disturbance on Main Street.
Captain Bradley of the Volunteers of America reports Captain Tyler formerly in charge here has been suspended from the organization. The action is before higher officials as Tyler allegedly incurred debts during his tenure and offers no effort to repay them.
A chorus of 125 eighth grade pupils will perform at the city teachers institute in the high school Saturday morning. The group includes singers from Broadway, Summit, Prospect and Summit schools under the direction of Misses Bowers Burress and Gold.
San Francisco rider Dominick, noted as a clever West jockey, will ride for E. E. Smathers starting tomorrow through next November. The engagement, paying $6,000, supports Smathers plan to race in the East on a large scale.

Barrett was chosen chairman and Mrs. Bixby secretary.
Christian a Ashland Mo arrival was arraigned for preliminary hearing on forging a five dollar check bearing O Thruston signature. Sam Fell arrested the suspect at McGurren s bar and turned him to Marshal Love, with bond set at 500 dollars for January 17.
New Orleans La Jan 6 Judge Parlant will hear tomorrow the Morton Trust Company of New York petition to appoint a receiver for the American Salt company operating at Belle Isla La The trust alleges delinquency in bond interest payments and that the company is attempting to remove and tear down its plant The concern was financed in part by John W Gates.
John W. Greer of two and a half miles southeast of Longwood conducted a closing out sale of farming implements and stock Wednesday before moving to Hughesville. Kemp Hieronymus conducted the sale. all items brought excellent prices. The Longwood Christian Church ladies served dinner on the grounds, proceeds totaling 21 dollars and 50 cents.
