A dramatic 4 a.m. disturbance on East Sixth Street involved Oscar Richey from Eureka and widow Mrs. Cleo Lukenbill. The landlady found them in bed together after a locked room ruse, Richey was cane-beaten, and the pair claimed marriage though no official record existed. They planned to marry on the Katy southbound later.
The last will of John Hennessy archbishop of Dubuque was filed in Buchanan County Missouri on Monday. He had long resided in Dubuque Iowa and owned substantial property there with holdings in other locations. The will cites a large fortune at his death leaving most assets in Dubuque with additional property elsewhere.

In Sedalia Missouri on January 2 1902 the twine ball measured 881 feet 11 inches. Millie Jones won first prize with 891 feet 9 inches and Willie Mossman took second with 892 feet 6 inches. Prizes were two steel ranges one finished in and one in aluminum.
