Chicago awoke to a blizzard burying the city under a foot of snow with strong winds. Telegraph and telephone wires were down isolating Chicago from the world and the storm spread across the lake region and valleys, threatening further suffering if cold weather follows. In Milwaukee fire officials Foley White and Hogan died from acid fumes while fighting a Schwab Stamp and Steel blaze, with three others hospitalized.
