Mrs Ellen Shatt a widow dies in a Nevada Missouri home when embers from a burning range ignite her clothing after a sudden illness. Her son a city mail carrier was away at the time. The neighbor girl discovered the burning scene and found the body burned beyond recognition.

An altercation between Smoky Brown and Alex Fisher in Lamonte led to Fisher slashing Brown’s face several times.
