East Sedalia reports a bold theft where wagon loaded with hens was taken from Tom Scally’s east of the round house. The thieves set the shed afire at about 4 a.m. but the blaze was stopped. officers have tracks but no clue. Local papers sent no representatives to a meeting of journalists.
Smithton reports a sensation as S W Gunder, a section man, escaped custody on the eve of his assault trial with liveryman E A Monsees. He fled toward timber before a posse could recapture him, forcing an indefinite postponement of the proceedings.
John Rivers was sent to the county jail for 30 days by Police Judge Burress for stealing overshoes from Messerly's. He fled the store twice before final capture near the city cemetery. Officer Boullt assisted. Also fined for drunkenness were J H Schoeder and Eli Hancock.
Editors from Holden Holden Enterprise and Globe along with Johnson County Eagle Star Standard Herald Journal Democrat and Knob Noster Gem met last Friday to form the Johnson County Newspaper club.
