The State Fair featured horse, swine, cattle, textile and pantry exhibits with premiums awarded. Judges announced English Shire and Percheron classes while exhibitors, including Higginsville and Sedalia participants, prepared for departure as Senator Cockrell toured the grounds.
The Grand Army of the Republic chose Boston as the 1904 encampment site. General John C. Black was elected Commander in Chief with C Mason Keene and Harry C. Kessler as senior and junior vice commanders. Chaplain Winfield Scott won on the second ballot after Brad ford withdrew. Chaplain Shuey urged Memorial Day respect and prohibition of amusements. Miss Sarah Brown of Santa Clara County, daughter of John Brown, visited as a guest of honor.
Zenobia Wilson aged nine, of Kansas City, was run over by a rock wagon on West Main street this morning around 10. She sat on a wagon with Myrtle White near workers on a rock road bed. The rear wheel passed over her, causing instant death. Coroner McCluney called an inquest at the courthouse for this afternoon.
Fire departments answered two incidents today. A grass fire started at Grand and Broadway from dry tinder. Around 1 pm a couch fire at the Hawkins residence traced to a lit match caused about ten dollars in damage. Hawkins carried 750 dollars of insurance on home and furnishings.
Herbert S. Kroneck a Democratic member of the General Assembly from St Louis visits the state fair with Mrs Kronck. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for attorney general and is said to be receiving strong encouragement statewide. He is a practicing attorney at the St Louis bar and his legislative record is described as above reproach.
Miss Lulu Scheer aged 19 died at her Kansas City home Thursday morning. The remains will be taken to Ed Lyons residence at 1510 South Osage Street tonight. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 2 oclock at the Lutheran Church.
Services at the Second Congregational Church will be held next Sabbath in the morning by former pastor Rev. J B Toomey and at 8 o clock by Rev J Lincoln Ellis. Sunday school starts at 9 45 Everyone is welcome.
The will of the late John C. Kahrs was probated today by Probate Judge O. E. Parsons. Letters testamentary in the above estate were given Wm. H. L. Kahrs.
Veteran stage figure John A Elisler aged 80 died today in New York. He lived most of his life in Cleveland and in the 1850s partnered with Joseph Jefferson, helping launch careers for Clara Morris James Lewis and his daughters Effie and Annie Elisler who also found stage success.
