A river launch named MR8 capsized resulting in the drownings of William Courtney and two of his daughters along with Miss Nell Varney. Local authorities investigated the accident and warned of dangerous waters on the route.
A fishing party returning from Chateau Springs near Boonville is washed by a downed telegraph wire. Mrs Emma Courtney and her two daughters Kathryn and Helen perish, Miss Nell Varney also drowns, while others survive. search and rescue continue as river divers probe the Missouri river in swift current. The bereaved husband, Mr William Courtney, offers a $100 reward per missing body.
