Elizabeth Parsons Barrett Emmett Walter Jakeman Edwin Evans and Allan Scruton won top honors in the Easter festival with Allie Offield reciting a notable poem. music by Mr Glenn Wood and the choir accompanied the event amid praise for the candlelabra donated in memory of Orestus A Crandall.
Jefferson City Missouri April 13 The Cole county grand jury resumes its probe into reports of doodling in the legislature. Witnesses summoned include Senators Farris Morton and Sartorious and U S Senator Stone plus Lieutenant Governor Lee. Attorney General Crow leads the examination using Lee’s written statement. Stone’s friends say he will visit family soon and not appear. Sartorious claims a five hundred dollar loan from Schoenlaub.
The State Fair board met this afternoon to transact routine business. Bids were received for construction of several new buildings including horticultural agricultural poultry facilities and two cattle barns. At 3 o'clock this afternoon there was no quorum and nothing was accomplished.
The stock market reopened in New York after the merger decision. Opening was nervous and below Thursday, with renewed selling pressure across the board. Declines of about one per cent led by Frisco which dropped three points.

A thousand workers including engineers foremen and crews on Chicago Dredging and Dock Co vessels walked off the job today after a strike by the union. The walkout followed wage demands tied to rates at other ports.
At the Picacho mines in San Diego officials say Constable Burke shot miner Santiago Lopez during a riot. In turn Burke was killed by a mob led by Lopez’s brother. Burke reportedly had a prior record of eleven killings.
Relatives of the late J. W. Burress found the grave dug on another J. W. Burress lot. They refused to lower the coffin until a new grave was dug. After adjustments and with Rev. Clippinger’s prior commitment, the service proceeded and the interment took place in the correct grave.
The Pennsylvania's Pittsburg limited narrowly avoided a wreck after a landslide blocked the track. The engineer could not stop in time and the train plowed through earth, causing a temporary panic among passengers. No injuries reported as the train remained on track.
Remains of Admiral Belknap who died recently in Pensacola arrived in Washington and were interred at Arlington Cemetery with naval ceremonies.

Mrs Will Russ of Kansas City, suffering a severe typhoid fever, was moved to Sedalia and is staying at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Peter Vollmer, 408 North Grand Avenue.
