The M D S plan to meet in Sedalia, Joplin declines funds for adequate entertainment and may seek alternatives. Medicos favor Sedalia for a convention hall while mayor-elect Christian begins term as ex-mayor Pickard appears in Berryville jail offering the water-lock to uphold public rights.
The state medical society plans its May meeting, moving from Joplin to Sedalia after Joplin declined to host. Sedalia's central location and proposed convention hall could attract large attendance and boost local revenue. Local notices report on residents, legal matters, and school events, including Elizabeth Roley winning first in freshmen orations and declamations.
May 1 edition reports Mary Wilson, who would have wed Elmer Williams on April 20, has died. Elmer Williams spoke in oratory on April 3 about The Woodraven Goat while Margaret Lister presented Prince. School contest results list Willie Quinn first in oratory and Will Ugentritz second. other participants named.
Bailey and Dugan report Eureka Springs resort is torn by a water dispute after bath house operators refuse to pay rentals and the mayor shuts off the water following the dispute.
Nadyne Myers, three years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Myers, barely survives a dangerous fall at their South Kentucky Street home as Mrs. Myers tucked her into bed. The incident occurred last evening and was only prevented from being fatal by chance.
Proceedings begun yesterday by Kohn Tickner and Myers of Philadelphia against the stock of Model clothing store. The suit rests on the claim that Mr Weill owns the store and Gus Levy of St Joseph may seek damages. Goods levied yesterday were replevined.
Annie Batey was brought back from Kansas City for stealing clothing from Mrs. G. W. Burr. She was arraigned for stealing from Frey the baker, sent to jail for five days, and will face Judge Rogers on the second charge after release.
A groom to be died after visiting his intended bride to arrange their wedding. The bride remains unconscious, physicians have given up hope, and the funeral is postponed to Sunday May first at Black Oak with Rev. Sardan officiating. Annie Wilson, a nurse from Sedalia, cares for her sister.
Chief Campbell of the St. Louis police force states in an interview that officers may go where they please after duty. They may discard uniforms, enter saloons, play cards, and associate with anyone as long as they act as gentlemen.
Tom Mara called from his bedroom as the little girl leaned from a low window and fell fifteen feet to the ground. She was unconscious all night with a severe brain concussion but no broken bones and is expected to recover without lasting harm. The attending Dr. Bronson reported no immediate spinal injury and cautious optimism private today.
Sheriff Lear of Warrensburg continues to lodge Adolph Lubric, convicted murderer of W. H. Hartman and jailed in Jefferson City under smallpox quarantine. Lubric remains calm and plans to start anew after his two year penitentiary term ends, seeking a place where his past is unknown.
A nighttime robbery at the Katy depot saw a mail clerk’s grip, a pair of shoes and trousers, and a fancy box with soap stolen. The soap was left behind, suggesting a roaming thief or hobo as the culprit.
A Sedalia woman described as brune te and modestly dressed visits Judge Ellison in his chambers claiming a supreme court judgment of 12500 to collect. She asserts ties to Leslie Orear and a marriage plan while alleging lawyers’ opium use. The judge consults clerks, sees her case lacks basis, and she departs.
