Captain Barr drives Shamrock to beat Columbia by 11.27 seconds in a close start to the stakeboat duel. The steamer Greyhound will start a Sunday schedule between this city and Fiverett tomorrow and continue through winter by either this vessel or the City of Everett. Sailings will depart at 7 p.m. 12 noon and 5 p.m. The City of Everett will go to Duwamish Head to finish painting then relieve the Greyhound, which becomes an extra boat.
The steamer Garonne was towed to Pacific Coast bunkers for coal before a planned trip to Neme. Repairs are completed and agent Frank Warhouge expects Lyr to depart soon.

The steamship Clavering capt Barker will finish cargoing 22,006 barrels of flour for Fort Arthur and Wladivestock at Centennial mill this afternoon and depart tonight. The steel vessel, 341 feet long, has operated as a army transport from Calcutta to Taku and Northern China and is now shipping flour and American goods to Northern China and Liberia. Dodwell & Co. plan to add more ships on this run with Seattle as terminus due to rising demand.
