Runaway freight car crashes in city street
A trailer freight car loaded with merchandise broke loose on a Madison street cable line near Third avenue at 10:30 a.m. It rolled down a steep hill at high speed, the rider J R Amon leaping to safety as the car somersaulted and dumped cargo along Second and First Avenues. The car caused a crowd to gather but no pedestrians were injured. a broken coupling bar and missing safety hooks were blamed on the railway company. The crew managed to right the wreck and continue.
