New Bank Plans Perfected For Seattle Area
After 11 weeks a committee of more than 100 state banks announced plans to establish in Seattle the Bank of Washington to take over the assets of the defunct Scandinavian American and to replace the Ballard branch with the Bank of Id. The two banks, jointly capitalized and carrying about 1.25 million in assets and surplus, will pay all Scandinavian depositors 100 cents on the dollar for accounts of 190 or less and 60 cents on the dollar for larger accounts, with remaining funds liquidated from old assets. The arrangement preserves the guaranty fund and lenders, under state supervision, aim to begin business soon with no fixed assets beyond cash.
