In Portland Oregon on September 20 M A Tucker 56 sacrificed his life to save his pet fox terrier. Tucker and his son followed the dog toward home on Southern Pacific tracks when the Oswego local rounded Curry street curve. The youth shoved his father off the rails and jumped clear as the dog stood in the middle. The elder Tucker tossed the dog to safety just before the locomotive struck him.
President Taft finished a tour of the upper Michigan peninsula today arriving by automobile. He spoke at a large mass meeting in a big tent before noon. This afternoon he continues to lower Michigan visiting Grand Rapids Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
United Press reports fourteen crew members died aboard the French armored cruiser Gloire when a gun turret exploded during practice in Toulon. The accident wrecked the breech as the charge detonated.
E Marcus, a patient at St Francis hospital being treated for melancholia, leaped from the hospital roof early today. He was found in a dying condition by attendants and died on the operating table, after escaping from his ward.
Minnie M. Williame faces a jury over alleged forging of her divorced husband’s will to claim a $26,000 estate. She testified she had no conversations with her former attorney H H Startzman or neighbor Mrs Thurston about forging the will.
