In Tokyo on September 18, 60 000 mourners lined streets and filled Aoyama cemetery for the funerals of Gen Count Nogi and Emperor Mut hite. The gun carriage bore Nogi’s body to the tomb as crowds stood in silence along the route and followed by his wife and other mourners.
A letter from W. Cram of Polm Barrow confirms Woodland Park Zoo will receive polar bear cubs from Capt. Andrew aboard the Transit last spring at sea. The zoo also reports 800 foxes arriving yesterday on the steamer Victoria, with a pair noted for transfer.
In Olympia Washington on September 18 the Stevens County superior court sustained Elmer Drummond’s second degree murder conviction. The Supreme Court rejected his claim of a change of heart after confession, ruling the evidence supported the verdict.

Patrolmen Morris and Nelson found John lying with a deep throat wound between Maynard and King. A fleeing Black man was seen from Yates' saloon toward Sixthay, but disappeared. Teeple offered no information as police link the injury to a card game dispute at Yates' saloon.
New York report says mob figures Lefty Louie Rosenzweig and Gyp the Blood Harry Horrowitz pleaded not guilty to alleged complicity in the Rosenthal murder and demanded an immediate trial. They were remanded to the Tombs after arrest in a Brooklyn flat where they lived with their wives.
This morning a suit was filed through the parents of Vivian M. Hedstrom a five year old seeking 20000 damages for injuries from an automobile owned by James H. Davis. The complaint alleges the car was driven at 35 miles an hour.

L. E. Knapp, jailed for forgery in Los Angeles, escaped from Deputy Sheriff George Keym in San Francisco. While en route to the state penitentiary Knapp asked to telephone Harry Flannery and vanished from a Palace hotel telephone booth as Keym turned away to light a cigar.
