Washington observers witness a state funeral as McKinley lies in state in the Capitol Rotunda. Roosevelt attends. crowd scenes turn chaotic outside with injuries as Czolgoszi faces murder charge and trial set for Sept 23.
Washington records describe a Capitol Street procession with a singing of Nearer My God to Thee. The march lists escort units from Maj. Gen. Brooke to Marines, DC National Guard, clergymen, physicians, and many federal officials in official ranks. The pageant notes the presence of former presidents, relatives, and international representatives as the line of march proceeds in order of precedence.
Diamond Head sails for the Pacific coast bunkers this morning to load coal for San Francisco. With 1100 ton capacity, the vessel will require about a week to bed. Under charter to Williams Dimond & Co of Honolulu, it was originally intended for merchandise to that port but shifted to coal amid high prices and demand in San Francisco. Leila Maud Lesher seeks a divorce from Philip S Lesher on grounds of cruelty and non support.
The Grant, a revenue cutter, was in port last night on business with the customs house. She departed early this morning after rumors of smuggling involving the San Juan islands.

Bulletin reports Pennsylvania railroad officials found Sunday night an attempted wreck on a funeral train near Tahca New York. The track was obstructed and tampered with, suspected to be the work of anarchists.
Canton Ohio pupils moved to fund a McKinley monument by rejecting a petition to join a national schoolchildren drive. They asked the board of education to permit contributions and to invite children nationwide to participate.
Mrs McKinley, grief stricken, begged during the night to view her dead husband’s face again. The casket lid was removed and she touched his features with a moan of anguish before being restrained. Her condition today prevents attendance at the capitol funeral and may threaten her health.
Reports from Jersey City say a foreign anarchist pledged to shoot President Roosevelt and fled to Washington. Authorities mobilized detectives and Secret Service to safeguard the president as a nationwide sweep arrests suspected radicals. In Cleveland a blacksmith, 72, is held on suspicion after declaring support for assassination for a reward.
Leon Crol pleaded not guilty to first degree murder of President McKinley through his counsel and was held for the supreme court. Arraignment followed in Buffalo with trial scheduled for Monday morning Sept 22. A crowd tracked him from city hall as detectives escorted him to the jail via a tunnel.
Transporting Salmon Cook and Co. uses the scow Tom leased from Drummond Scow Co. A house built aboard protects salmon cases. They carry 106,999 cases from Anacortes Point Roberts Blaine to Vancouver and tow to destination then ship east on the CPR.

The Home Colony anarchists near Tacoma issue an invitation to the Tacoma G A R to conference before taking action, while resolutions call treasonous archy punishable by banishment or burial. The G A R replies no conference under the Red Flag and demands the flag and state banner raised instead.
Biase swears to a complaint charging Arthur Loseberry with grand larceny this afternoon in Judge George's court. Biase alleges Loseberry stole his horse and wagon.
Alleged thief May Keating also known as Mabel Wilson will face Judge George tomorrow afternoon on charges of stealing $20 from Geo Parker in the Magnolia saloon last night.
Yesterday Chappelle purchased from M. M. Haight the entire block D, Maynard's plat of Seattle except CP Ry Co right of way. The property sits on Weller Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues south. Consideration totaled $70,000.

A report filed at police headquarters describes a burglary in Pitts’s room at 1499 Twelfth Avenue. Detective Bam Corbett found tension after Pitts’s wife and daughter moved nearby and she later took dishes. No action will be taken. Hugh Melean, ex member of Co. D, died at Interbay at 2 pm. The Washington Volunteers will meet at Colling Hall at 8 pm to plan the funeral arrangements.
The county commissioners this afternoon ordered advertisement for bids to lease the county farm for five years. Bids will be opened on the 27th of this month.
Erickson bound over to the superior court by Judge George on the charge of obtaining money under false pretense. He had cashed a worthless $30 check on Mat Magea a cantoon keeper several days earlier.
