A major blaze at the Frye Bruhn packing house on Grant Street Bridge Trestle destroyed the structure and nearby outbuildings within two hours. Losses are estimated between 159000 and 300000 with many hogs cattle and carloads of meat lost. Fire brigade struggled for water due to a low tide and limited mains. Rebuilding is planned once the site is cleared with temporary quarters to be sought in the interim.
