Mike Napple pleaded guilty to liquor charges and was fined $200 on Tuesday by Federal Judge Jeremiah Neterer. The case was heard in federal court with Judge Neterer presiding.

Six men were reported killed and others seriously injured when an oil still at the Point Breeze plant of the American Refining company on the Schuylkill river exploded this afternoon. Firefighters confined the blaze to the one still as the fire raged.

A Joliet prison escape attempt ends with one convict dead and two seriously wounded. Six inmates, all robbers, breached cell bars and climbed to the roof of the administration building. Guard C J Carlson wounded Theodore Schiller fatally. John Koch and George Williams were seriously hurt. John Ryan was captured while Edward Thorpe and Carl Stetena escaped.
Joseph Horace, age 23, escaped Sing Sing Prison before dawn by sawing through cell bars and breaking a trap door. He slid 70 feet on a frail telephone wire to the ground, scaled the wall, and swam across the Hudson River to freedom in Ossining New York.
