Distribution notices go to every city smoke plant urging installation of suppression devices now in use in eastern cities. Inspector Murray reports varying device costs from $500 and up. The health board plans to abate smoke nuisance after January 1, 1906, despite local manufacturers’ objections to furnace compatibility.
The board will enforce the ordinance but refrain from mandating any specific smoke consuming device. Installation remains at the plant owners’ discretion. The crusade against the nuisance began by The Star nearly two years ago and culminates after months of single handed effort by the health board.
Citizens in Beykomibh denounce the opening of a house of ill fame near residence streets. The establishment faces a saloon just feet away, with two families living nearby. Local women and companions reportedly drank sang blasphemous talk loudly last Sunday. Citizens vow to oust the operation.
