Alleged Father Mistreated Daughter Leads to Arrest

Fred H. Witz a conductor on the Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound Ry was arrested Saturday by Deputies Wiley and Von Gurat after an alleged brutal attack on his 13 year old daughter Ethel. The child is reported in critical condition. A week long search included a five mile brush chase from Kirkland to Hollywood. Mrs. Witz filed the complaint Friday and Witz fled Cedar Falls before vanishing. He later contacted an attorney from near Kirkland by long distance phone.

Lang Probe to Begin Monday by City Council

The investigation of Police Chief Lang for conduct unbecoming an officer will start Monday at 3 pm by the city council. All members are expected, Lang has hired three lawyers, and Corporation Counsel Bradford will conduct the inquiry with daily sessions until the council decides if the chief’s attendance at a cafe drinking festival and accompanying a cabaret singer to her room violated norms.
