President McKinley Improve Says Surgeons After Illness

Sunday reports from Buffalo indicate President McKinley rests well with surgeons predicting no immediate danger and a good chance of full recovery. Killed at Play in Vacant Lot Tunnel Collapse

Frederick Bailey age 11 died yesterday when a cave in of a tunnel being dug by neighborhood children at a vacant lot near 1047 He Place buried him. Lester Boyd escaped with minor bruises as rescuers worked to reach Bailey but he could not be revived. Bailey was son of Charlie Bailey former purser of the Charles D. Lane. The body to be moved from the residence later today.

A cablegram from Willemstad, Curacao, reports the Venezuelan fleet bombarding Rio Macha, described as the first act of the war on the Isthmus. The Colombian legation has received the message, noting the location as Willemstad and Curacao.

The 10 year old Maurice G Lechey, son of Mr and Mrs M B D Lechey, died yesterday morning at 760 Kin near place. The funeral was held from the residence this afternoon and was in charge of the Collins Sherman Foley Co.

Councilmen Crichton Rinehart James Byers Muldoon Vincent and Benjamin spent two days at the Wenatchee county fair. They call the trip pleasant and say they were treated well. The final night featured a grand ball with delightful entertainment.

Queen City lodge No. 914 Knights and Ladies of Security met on the third floor of the New York block and chose H. P. McGuire as president T. P. Herbert Hay, a deserter from Fort Was, was taken into custody by John Huff this morning after several days on the run. He reportedly fled with nearly 9100 dollars in his possession.

Jack the Glazier vandal strikes First Avenue stores

A repeated vandal nicknamed Jack the Glasier damaged three plate glass windows on First Avenue. Rainier Hardware at 1191 First Avenue, Seattle Paint & Varnish at 1319 First Avenue, and a Kline & Rosenberg storefront near Cherry Street all bore long scratches. Police reported injuries to windows and pledged severe punishment if caught.

Collision on Yesler avenue street car injures wagon driver

Motorman Fritchey operated car No. 16 which collided with a produce wagon driven by J. W. Conners of 900 Cherry street at Seventh avenue and Yesler way. Conners was thrown and bruised. his wagon nearly demolished. No injuries on the car. the car suffered slight damage.
