Incendiary fire devastates Pier No 14 destroying most merchandise stored there. A F Haines of Dodwell & Co reports losses surpassing 300000 dollars while dock officials dispute the cotton quantity aboard. E Wilman, a longshoreman, is sought by authorities as inquiries continue.
Fred L. Boaltee argues that Seattle schools lack adequate fire escapes after a Peabody Mass tragedy. He recalls Collinwood and stresses interior exits are insufficient without external fire escapes and stronger safety devices for children.

Peabody Massachusetts two morgues hold the remains from a St John parish school fire. Nineteen children lie burned and twisted, two more victims are in St Thomas Hospital morgue. Fire officials say 21 lives are confirmed with 27 bodies previously reported.
John W Considine, famed theatrical manager, admitted in Superior Court that he is insolvent and cannot cover a $2,500 judgment. He said he owes $800,000 to $900,000 for Sullivan & Considine, Inc, plus about $40,000 in private debts, and that his Seattle Orpheum property and diamonds have failed to raise funds. He claimed he kept no records of loans and that funds disappeared in small amounts, with all diamonds sold outright months ago.
