Hazelmuir B C Oct 22 The gang’s leader who raided Sedro-Woolley last Saturday night and plundered the First National bank was killed this morning in a battle with a posse. Surviving gang members were cornered in the woods as the pursuit continued.
Frank Pope at Hazlemuir telephones The Star about the bandit pursuit. News of the second bandit's death breaks as shots ring out while Pope, sworn deputy, travels with Sheriff Wells' posse from Mt. Vernon toward the scene.
In a clash four miles north of Blaine near Hazelmuir Canadian and Whatcom officials pursued five bandits. Clifford Adams an immigration inspector was killed at the first volley. A bandit leader and a red haired attacker were slain. Four thousand dollars in gold and three pistols were found. Three others are at large with a posse ready to kill them. Amos Kile and F L Stanton were wounded and several officers arrived to reinforce. The incident unfolds along the Canadian border with bloodhounds on the trail.
