Houston report says the state awakens to a rapid yellow fever outbreak with San Antonio Laredo and other areas sealed off. A shotgun quarantine backs official limits in smaller towns as the San Antonio fair is canceled and twenty thousand visitors depart.
Pittsburg October report says the First National Bank of Allegheny, linked to the Federal National Bank, chose liquidation after a morning directors conference. It states the bank is solvent but distrust and a bank run forced voluntary liquidation. after obligations are paid a surplus and profits are expected for shareholders.
Antonne F. Strander known as Lucky Antonne, a Seattle capitalist and Holyoke block owner, was assaulted by prizefighter Nick Burtey on First Avenue near Madison Street. The fight began over a $50 debt. Strander asked for $9, Burley struck, Strander was battered, both were jailed, Burley released on $20 bail, Strander kept as a witness with injuries.
The Geo B Peck Dry Goods Co maintains a summer colony in Fairmount Park about ten miles from Kansas City for hundreds of women and children employees. Cottages house young female clerks for a two week vacation with schooling provided, using the same textbooks and monthly progress reports. After four years the plan shows faithful service and high morale among workers who rarely leave for other jobs.
Comptroller of Currency William D Ridgely was informed early today of the failure of the First National Bank of Allegheny. Tank Examiner Vaughan was immediately appointed as receiver in charge of the bank's affairs.
