Alaska miner found dead in sewer after missing days
John Jackson, an Alaska miner, was last seen Thursday near 1626 Fourteenth Avenue. His body was found in a Fairview Avenue sewer 60 feet from the entrance, a penknife nearby suggesting suicide. Two boys discovered the scene at 6 p.m., detectives and a deputy coroner recovered the body for the morgue. Jackson, a Mason in good standing, had epileptic fits and despondency likely led to the act. Five dollars and a gold watch and chain were found on him.
