Fontanet Indiana bore the brunt of a Dupont Powder plant explosion. About 100 people are dead or unaccounted, with 125 injured and 60 missing. Buildings collapsed, mines breached, and debris blocked communications as residents await relief and officials send troops and tents to Fontanet.

Frisco October 15 Joseph King a logger in a intoxicated state started a riot after falling through a window at a Fellot Japanese laundry. Workers and bystanders fought back as the building was stormed. Police rescued King and hospital treated many injured from flying bricks and stones.
Vienna reports Emperor Franz Joseph weakening with fever and inability to move across the room without aid. Court officials were received and dismissed as his condition grows worse, with alarm rising over his health.

Walla Walla Oct 15. Willard P. Herachey state president of the Good Templars vows to stop liquor sales at the county fair. George Mottet saloon owner is jailed for selling liquor without a license. The saloon sits near the grandstand within a mile of licensing authorities, and Hershey plans daily re arrests during the fair.
